Sometimes it all seems worthwhile
Almost five years ago I was coaching a mixed group of our U14 and U16 boys including one lad who had never touched a rugby ball before. Twenty minutes into the session I bet the U14 coach that this kid would be his player of the year. I won my bet. Later I coached him for two years as part of my U16 squad and he just got better and better. I'd also add that he is from a far from wealthy family, in a not especially nice part of town and certainly no rugby in his background. He's also a really nice kid. He's just been selected for the Rugby Canada National Academy programme.
