Developments on Queen's Quay

Sep 06, 2010 15:15

For decades the various levels of government have been squabbling about how to develop Queen's Quay East and the port lands. (Roughly, this is the land that encloses the eastern half of Toronto harbour). Mostly it has been underused industrial land, parking lots and the like. Over this summer they have finally started to develop the section from Jarvis east to just past Sherbourne.

This, being the view from the Kitten Kondo, is what it currently looks like:

Under the cut are eleven more pictures taken east to west starting at the bottom of Sherbourne.

The new park on the north side of Queens Quay just east of Sherbourne. I have no clue what this is supposed to end up as.

The park across on the south side.

The big hole just west of the park which will become the George Brown College health sciences building.

The new HQ of Corus entertainment.

Looking east along the lakefront of the new park.

Looking west from the same spot.

The utterly surreal Sugar Beach park.

Three shots showing the weird juxtaposition of the new with the old. The ship in these shots is a 10,000 tonne ocean going bulk carrier moored next to the sugar refinery.

And finally a bonus of some rather striking graffiti on the Guvernment night club complex at the bottom of Jarvis.
