Very interesting stuff, virology. My mother was born in 1951 and had Hong Kong flu in 1967, so I'm hoping that she has a bit more immunity than most people.
Since I have four plane flights in two weeks, I got a seasonal flu shot yesterday. I can actually remember being sick with something very flu-like in 1957, so feel pretty sure I'm really immune to H1N1. Still, I'm washing my hands like a freak. Wonder if the development of those hand sterilizers has affected infection rates at all? Do anti-biotic soaps get rid of viruses? and more thoughts from a paranoiac...
Despite knowing all about the molecular biology of the influenza virus, how to develop specific anti-virals and the rest they still don't know how it's transmitted. So hand sanitisers, masks etc may make a difference and then again maybe not.
