So... two of my little cousins came over today. We were talking about a lot of things, their life in high school etc. yet then it got to the subject of marriage. They said, " Shazia Baji, when are you getting married. You are the next on the "list" to get married, all the aunties are talking about it." I looked shocked and I said, "I'm only 20, I want to finish getting my masters at least." They inturn were shocked. They said, " How old will you be??" I said, " Probably mid 20's." They smiled in relief and said, " Well thats good, as long as you aren't 30, thats way too old!" First off, I was shocked that this was even a topic of discussion among the aunties (or the group of ladies that like to play matchmaker). Supposedly this was a very common discussion for them to have. They want to find me a good pakistani boy they say. I love this culture, I really really really do. Yet 1) I don't want to be arranged 2) When I feel like I want to get married I will, I do not need an age limit 3)I have a mind, I can choose who I want to marry
I respect anyone who gets an arranged marriage just as much as I respect those who choose who they marry, yet its just not for me.
