JOHN MAYER CONCERT!

Jan 27, 2007 13:50

im listening to john mayer and the john mayer trio right now.. more energized than ever while listening to it because i went to john's concert last night! it was INCREDIBLE. let me give you the run down; the play by play with as least freaking out commentary as possible:

the opening act was josh rouse... he had some nice songs but he was also kind of corny. but his good stuff was really good. it turned out sandra has listened to him at sears and loves a couple songs lol. she was like "thats him!?" haha

Set List:
Vultures - great opening.. there was so much energy in the room and everyone was in shock that it was all happening
Good Love is On the Way - im so thrilled he played this song! it is one of-if not my favorite from the john mayer trio's EP "try!"
Why Georgia - as you may know john's old music doesnt do ti for me like his new stuff.. but he played ALL the old songs i know and love. i love the lyrics to this song and it was great to sing along to it with everyone.
Slow Dancing in a Burning Room - the ending of this song is SO INTENSE on the record... but live.. it is just unbearably heartbreaking. but so beautiful.
Clarity - another old tune that was great to sing along to.. and you know the parts where the music explodes on track that sounded awesome live.
Belief - i was flashing the peace sign at "what puts a hundred thousand childrean in the sand.. belief can.. belief can.. what puts a folded flag inside his mother's hands.. belief can.. belief can".. and you could tell the sentiment was shared by most people in the room
I'm Gonna Find Another You - the horns brought it alive of course.. and i loved screaming along to "if im forced to find another.. i hope she looks like you.. yeah and shes nicer too!" lol

Gravity - ok... this deserves it's own section. i cant even put into WORDS how incredible this performance was. he introduced it by saying "this song is the closest i ever get to prayer in song".. and thats what the song is to me.. so i was already excited when he said that. the song is a blues song so obviously the guitar had to be intense.. and it was. he did like an 8 or 9 minute version of this song with guitar going into climaxes and crescendos that you just felt in your whole body.. and when he sang "just keep me where the light is" he broke for a guitar solo for sec and then started SCREAMING "ohhh where the light is!" like on the try album.. but more natural and intense and honest.. and we all screamed with him. then he just played guitar for a good 5 minutes really incredibly to the point where people were giving him standing ovations during the performance.. and when his slide guitarist kicked in... idk how i didnt start bawling. incredible.

Bigger Than My Body - this song was so fun! i remember when this song came out loving the sound.. and at the show everyone was just dancing and singing. it was really fun.
Waiting on the World to Change - my least fav on continuum which says a lot.. everyone was singing.
No Such Thing - i was surprised but very happy to hear this song. the "i am invincible" part was so great.

-- encore --
Stop This Train - ok.. i am SO HONORED to have been in the room when john mayer played this song. it is well known that john has said that he would rarely -if ever- play this song because it is so personal and hard for him to sing. and he sang it! the whoel room was like "he's singing it! holy crap i cant believe it!" i was so honored. beautiful track. beautiful performance.
Your Body is a Wonderland
Neon - this is the only song i didnt know by heart; but of course i knew about the song because it's a lot of mayer fan's favorite. the performance was REALLY energetic and pumped up.. and of course the light show was cool cause you cant have a song called "neon" have a crappy light show. lol
In Repair - i cant even explain how excited i was at the prospect that i would hear this song live. ahhh it just came on my itunes and i think im gonna cry. this song means a lot to sandra and i and we were looking forward to this perofrmance. turns out.. it's how he closed the show. now.. the album version has 3 guitars on the climax and ending of the song (one of them being james valentine from maroon 5.. it would have been too good to be true had he come out) so you can imagine how insanely emotional that gets. like on gravity, the band kept making you believe they were ending the song and would pump all the way back up again into guitar solos that went on forever and you felt throughout your whole body. when the slide guitar came in and everyone was singing "im in repair.. im not together but im getting there"... oh man. john stepped away from the microphone into his zone and just played his heart out... and the whole audience was singing that part over and over even though we werent supposed to. evryone in the room was connected at that point. people were SCREAMING that part getting all their frustrations, and anger, and sadness out. it was therapeutic. then when they were about to end sandra and i went down to the floor and were pretty close to john.

when he was walking offstage he grabbed a cd and signed it.. and some girl's poster and signed it. the whole audience went "ohh.. ohh! awwwww" it was funny. turns out.. we met her after the show and the poster read "john: PROM?" he signed it "yes" and his autograph. :) sandra took the FUNNIEST picture with the chick... they both looked crazy. the girl looked like she didnt even know what was going on with her life anymore. lol

lol

we decided to stick around to see if we could meet him but it quickly became obvious that only road crew had stayed behind. so sandra and i went to where the tour buses were and there were sooo many people there. mainly chicks unfortunately. i thought the fans might get annoying because when i walked in i could hear girls going "i cant wait to see john hes so hawtt!" and i just hate that. but they were a great audience.. when he played stop this train everyone was silent and listening intently.
anyway.. we waited for john for about an hour and he finally came out. there was a left, middle section, and right section of fans.. and he went straight to center. we were in the left. so he starts walking AWAY from us. we were so bummed. he was like 2 yards away from us.. so close yet so far. he was walking away and about to leave. we were all yelling "john! john! please... we love you.. thank you for the concert.. please come sign our stuff".. and after what felt like an endless 5 minutes he turned to our section to come sign our stuff. the girls got a bit crazy. the platform i was on was starting to move.. the bodyguards were yelling and john was saying "relax relax". finally when he got to our section.. sandra..being short as fuck maneuvered RIGHT in front of john.. i was behind her taking pics.. and she put "try" in front of him. it was the second thing he signed in our section! we were thrilled and thanking him endlessly. he was beign so nice. to one dude he says "are you a guitar player?" "yes" "i could tell! youre gonna make it" awwwwww. and then thsis little girl that looked about 12.. she said something about how she sings and he was like "thats great.. ohh.. look at you! youre gorgeous! gorgeous!" she could NOT stop smiling. and then this little girl that looked about 7 or 8.. he said, very shyly, "john.. do you think you could pweese sign my shirt" and he was like "awwww of course i can!" and signed it for her. he was so damn awesome. i had an amazing night.

john with the hawtt guitar that i was as excited to see as i was to see him

when the fans got a little crazy

AHHH :D

we took this half jokingly like "just in case we meet john hahaha.. yeah right" and then we did! :D
