Silver lining
Here's the wrap up of the shitty car epic.
My window, and my windscreen that's had a crack in it for a little while, are both getting fixed today and are totally covered by insurance...no excess to pay!
Steffie's car is almost certainly a write off, which is awesome because it was a choice between waiting ages for it to be fixed and getting back a car with a significantly lower resale value or getting a hefty insurance payout now.
So, all's (comparitively) well that ends (relatively) well.
I love (somewhat) happy endings.
