Remember how I said I wanted to go to the Engineers Ball in my last post? Well, one of my roommates' friends got me a free ticket because she was the coordinator of the event! So Rani, Neha and I got all dolled up and went to the E-Ball together. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Wes, Laura, Krista, Claire, Kyle and Alanna were there as well, and we all danced together for about 3 hours, almost nonstop. The music wasn't very good (all terrible rap), but we didn't let that stop us. We did the macarena, the cha-cha slide, and the electric slide, among others. During Baby Got Back, Rani and Neha suddenly started dancing with me; they came out of nowhere, Rani in front of me, Neha behind me, and it was actually really hilarious. At the end of the song, Rani screamed in my ear, "Neha and I double-teamed you!!!" lmao I also danced with their friend Ashish, who turned out to be wasted. The rest of the night was relatively uneventful; just dancing a lot with my friends. I can't wait to go to another one!!! Ruth says the AASU (Asian American Student Union) banquet is going to be the same thing, but more formal, so I get to wear my prom dress again!!!! I'm going to take Tibaldi as my date, since Ruth will be too busy talking to everyone to pay attention to me, and I don't actually know anyone in AASU.

So we got home around 2:00 AM from the E-Ball (it ended at 12, but we went to Tim Horton's afterward), and then I woke up at 8:48 this morning so we could go protest the Westboro Baptist Church. If you're not familiar with them, wikipedia them. I'm sick of telling people the website name b/c it's so offensive. The gist is that they're crazy, incestuous, terrible terrible people who protested the memorial of a human rights activist who was on the plane that crashed in Clarence. They were protesting BECAUSE she was a human rights activist. You were supposed to wear either white or black, so I wore all white. We went to both memorials, the one in Clarence at 10 AM and the one on Main St at 12:30. Here's a link.  It was amazing, it really was.  At the first one, people were honking and giving us thumbs up.  Someone threw a glass bottle at the WBC (the cops were kind of like, hmmm, maybe we should look like we care about that), someone else jokingly asked the cops if he could run them over, and as the WBC was leaving, someone driving by rolled down his window and said to us, "Go after them."  I think he was only half kidding.  One couple who lived near there asked me, "So do you just follow these guys around the country, or do you do other stuff too?"  lol They thought it was my job to protest the protesters.  They were very nice and supportive, and the woman took pictures.  No media covered the event so as not to lend credibility to the WBC (all the local stations decided together).  At the second one, people were honking all up and down the street and giving thumbs up as well.  We stood on a street corner (in the video on the news article, when that guy named Danielle comes on, you can see across the street from him; I was standing on that corner with my friends).  I was the first one to see them coming, and even though we were just supposed to stand still and not acknowledge them, everyone started moving down the street and surrounding them.  They couldn't even get near the church.  They left after two minutes, and they didn't even say anything to us.  There were 3 of them and 300 of us.  I know someone threw a rock at them, which was a terrible thing to do because that's how they get all their money - suing people who do things like that.  But, oh well.  Who are they going to sue?  The city of Buffalo?  Hopefully nothing will happen.  They really are mentally unstable, I swear.  They were late to their own protest because their lawyers were trying to get an exclusionary zone roped off - so basically, they wanted Buffalo PD to clear a street corner for them to spew their hatred on.  Fat chance.  The BPD didn't want them there any more than we did.  I'm really happy that I was able to participate in that.  And as an added bonus, I'm glad I got the chance to be in an activist movement in college!  :)
