So last night we went to get enrolled in Japanese classes - FINALLY!
Miko had found this awesome place. It's $100 each for 8 classes, and the two of us are working with a teacher, with NO other students (for now, but I doubt we'll end up being close enough to the same level as someone else that they'd be able to join our class, and if they do end up adding someone to our class, I doubt it'll be for as long as we intend to go). It's an absolutely awesome deal, and we'll be doing that every Wednesday from now on. Mark your calendars XD
The place is a bit ghetto, but not in a bad way. More in an adorable we-are-just-regular-people-who-speak-Japanese-not-University-Professors way. We walked in and were led into a small cubical with a big box of a whole lot of random crap on the desk.
And Itachi was staring me in the face.
I pointed to the manga and went "Naruto!" and it turns out that all of the teachers (including ours, Kenji) are HUGE Naruto fans.
At one point during the lesson, we broke off so he could ask me questions, because it turns out I'd read more of the manga than he has. I guess he's just reading them as the books come out here (in Japanese, of course, because he speaks hardly ANY english), and I've been reading the scanlations as they come out in Japan, not compiled into a volume yet, but directly from each issue of Jump magazine.
So he's asking me about Sasori and Chiyo, and I in my best pidgin Japanese and a little English (as I said, he speaks hardly any English) explain that
Sasori is actually pretty bishounen and inside a doll, and that Chiyo defeats him and the other teacher, who's working just outside the cubical, cries out "Shokku!!" Ha...I accidentally spoiled her. Whoops! ^_^;;;
It was awesome. I'm so excited about this class, because it goes all the way up to full fluency. We can just keep taking it until we're done. No more of this 'take a beginner course, review everything and then wait 2 years and have to do it all over again' crap.
After we got home, we were totally high and excited and decided to give Ouran Highschool Host Club a try, on
laylah's recommendation. We were going to watch just ONE episode to wind down, and then go to bed.
Those of you already aware of the complete and utter crack and love that this anime is made from are now facepalming and shaking your heads.
OMG, so much LOVE. I laughed until my throat hurt. And yes, we watched all of the three episodes that I'd downloaded.
Anyone who liked Sukisyo needs to see this series. It's pretty, it's hilarious. Lunar Fansubs is doing it. My best description is that it's like the writers of Meine Liebe got high on gummi bears and decided to write a parody. There's exactly one of every kind of BL cliche, and they KNOW it's a cliche. I love it.
