Well, I'm reading this book about Ida Wells and her work to publicize lynching(she is very inspiring...more people should know about her, besides as a bold-print name on the AP test) but the reason I bring Judge Thomas up is because when he called his confirmation and assorted drama a "high-tech lynching", he was sort of banking on people not knowing how sick and twisted an actual lynching was. I didn't, not that it would be okay with me to take some suspected miscreant outside of town and shoot him out in the middle of the desert or whatever, but it was worse, even than that.Mutilations, people not being convicted of anything being torn to pieces and such...Thomas may have been accused of sexual misconduct, while being black,(incidentally, what the hell was all that?!) but he absolutely was not lynched...high tech or otherwise. Like it or not, Clarence, you're black, and you spit on your own heritage to save your own ass. And, of course, that was just the beginning. But that is why more people should pay attention to things outside their own heritage and experience.
