I hate when people use "whole" to refer to the absence of disability, among fifty thousand other similar things I wish my world was big enough that I could just pass up being Little Miss Teachable Moment about. Early conditioning dies hard, though. I bet I've been explaining *something* about myself since I was six or seven years old. So now I'm in House fandom, and this kind of stupidity goes on every week. I said something, but I found myself wishing I hadn't the second I typed Post.
But the thing is, there is no Before for me. No active soccer-playing past that I'm struggling to reconstruct my life without. So, if I accept that metaphor, there is no possibility for wholeness for me, ever.(Which, honestly, I suspect might be true, but I don't want to institutionalize that.) For a show that features such a strong icon, the fandom is full of accidental bigotry. Sigh.
