We found another Atmosphere CD on the iTunes network. It's called God Loves Ugly. I'm not as big a fan of it. I thought it was a later CD at first. Kind of a sellout, taking what sold so well from Lucy Ford and playing it out some more. Actually, it turns out that God Loves Ugly comes before both Lucy Ford and Seven's Travels. They just weren't quite there yet. There are definitely some songs on it worth listening to. "Fuck You Lucy" is a safe bet, as anything about Lucy Ford generally is. And there is a perfectly good reason for that. Atmosphere is made up of two guys (I think) one of them was also in Aesop Rock. His name is Sean and he's the one that dated Lucy. He also goes by Slug and has worked by himself and with tons of other people. The problem with God Loves Ugly is that there is way too much of the other guy on it. He's way more violent and trite that Sean, he's just not as intelligent, doesn't have as much to say. That's why anything involving Lucy is generally a safe bet, because you can be sure that Sean's voice will be coming through strong. So if you come across God Loves Ugly don't expect as much, but check out "Fuck You Lucy" "Saves the Day" and "Lovelife". Seven's Travels, which is the latest of the Atmosphere CDs, is better than God Loves Ugly, I feel. If you're listening to Seven's Travels make sure to give the following a listen.
1. "Reflections"
2. "Apple"
3. "Lift Her Pull Her"
4. "Gotta Lotta Walls"
5. "Trying to Find a Balance"
Lucy Ford is just good through and through. One of my favorite things about Lucy Ford are Sean's conversations with God. I tolerate his religiousness well because he always refers to God as a she. For probably the best Sean/God conversation, listen to "They're All Gonna Laugh at You". It's actually Brandy's favorite, I don't know that could pick a favorite if I had to, but it's certainly a good one. Just listen to Lucy Ford atleast once all the way through and I promise you'll be sold. If you want it and you aren't on the Scripps iTunes network, email me and I'll burn or email you a copy, because I love it that much.
It's "gutter" and I spell it with the "G" I stole from "get the fuck up"
