Mice probs

I'm approaching a dozen mouse sightings within the past month.  I told my landlord about the first time and he handed out two glue traps.  A solid three weeks later, we caught a mouse.  However, the mice that are still hanging around are getting pretty bold.  One ran across my foot while I was doing dishes the other night.  The landlord handed out ( Read more... )

I grew up in a subdivision surrounded by farm land and forest preserve. This meant that every autumn when it got cold, we got mice.

Glue traps don't do anything except result in a long, painful, protracted, and loud suffering filled death for the mouse/rat. Don't use them.

Spring traps sometimes break the back instead of the neck and don't kill the mouse. Also, it's easy to get the bait off (I've heard of people having good luck with a dab of peanut butter, or else dry dogfood with a hole in it, twist-tied to the bait platform) without triggering the trap.

We've had best luck with D-Con. You can get pouches that you can just chuck under the stove/fridge/cabinets and also trays with pellets inside. The mice eat the poison and die quickly. This isn't a good solution if you have pets (which you don't) or small children. Since you've noticed the mice in a specific area, put the poison there especially.

Also, if you have a friend with a cat and you don't have any horrible terrible allergy issues, have your friend bring the cat by for a visit. I've read that just the smell of a cat can be a deterrent for mice, at least for a little while.

I was just going to suggest this - if you can borrow a cat, or maybe even a dog, you might get yourself some temporary relief.

Yeah I had good luck with a spring trap and peanut butter. Caught the mouse on the first day I set it out.
Place the traps right by the holes near the radiator(thats where I heard the mouse at 4am every day in my bedroom knawing on the wall!! and it worked for me)

We once put out those traps that have a cover on them so you don't actually see the dead mouse (just the tail and the fact that the trap lever is sprung). We didn't even bait the trap but we had a dead mouse in there the next day. I guess the mouse's curiosity about what was in that dark hole got the better of him.
