I've got some friends coming to town the weekend of the big St. Patrick's Day parade. They'd like to go downtown and see them dye the river green and then watch the parade. I've never been so I have no idea if it's really, really crowded or what. Apparently the river dyeing starts at 10:45 AM. How early do you think we need to get there to get a good view?
Also, I'm thinking about going out to lunch while we're downtown. I admit that I've only worked in the Loop since July and live in the 'burbs so I don't know much about restaurants that are open on the weekends. Any recommendations for a good lunch place (preferably no Chinese or Thai or any other Asian style) that isn't like a 45 minute train ride from the Grant Park area?
