i move to chicago this monday, and as a girl from new york my biggest concern is finding a pizza place that makes legitimate new york style pizza. cardboard thin. i can not do deep dish, or chains like pizza hut and dominos. am i s.o.l. or is there hope for me?

i'm moving to logan square, for reference of area.

New York style pizza is much disparaged around these parts, and it's a rare vendor that bothers to make it (since the demand for it is nearly non-existent). Your best bet might well be at small operations that do a lot of different things (I'm thinking of a place like "Mr. Gyros & Mrs. Pizza"* at Clark & Division) and don't have the facilities for deep-dish.

*note: I've never had the pizza there, but I seem to recall that it looked like that thin and greasy style.

wow... ny.... lived for 5 years and have now been living in chicago almost 4 years now and the only real thing i miss from ny is the pizza! especially from ANGELO'S on 103 and roosevelt ave by the 7 train in corona, queens. ! gotta tell you that it's gonna be tough finding a good spot though. home run inn is pretty decent, ricobone's is salty, and of course there's aurellio"s as well but it's not the same! i do enjoy the deep dish they got out here ( giordano's and gino's) though. hopefully someone knows of a spot that has that same semi crunchy crust pizza that you gotta fold in half! till then, good luck on your search! if i find something though, i'll let you know!

Truth be told, thin crust pizza is infitely more popular in Chicago than deep dish. But its Chicago style thin crust though which is really crispy and good. The only place I have found New York style at is at Sbarro's so I guess that doesn't help you much.

I know this doesn't help you since its out by where I live in Rogers Park/Lincolnwood, but we have a place called "Easter Style Pizza" which seems to have the NY style large floppy greasy triangle pieces of pizza. I've never had "true NY pizza" however, so I can't say if they do a good job of it. I can say its pretty good pizza however. (Eep, sorry upon further research it seems like its "Philly style" food. My bad..)

Here's a link from yelp that asks your same question. It seems like Santullo's is the place to go.
