Do you have any cool Chicago trivia?

I'm working on a project.

Citations, welcome.

Thanks!

Hm. Well, there's the Chicago Tunnel Company which some know about but not everyone.

There's the Reversing of the Chicago River.

Most of Streeterville and points west of Michigan avenue are built on landfill and not originally part of the city.

The name Chicago comes from the native american word chicagou, which referred to a kind of garlic plant found in the area.

Lincoln Park was built on top of a cemetary for Confederate Soldiers. (Lots of other fun stuff at that link as well ( ... )

This is suburban trivia, so I don't know if counts, but...Carol Stream is the only municipality in the country named after a person currently still living.

Carol Stream, daughter of developer Jay Stream, is living in California right now. Her father named the village after her when, at age 16, she was in a bad car accident...he named it after her in hopes she'd recover. Which, obviously, she did!
