Automatic Card Shufflers--They Can Do Better, No?

Silly little rant I posted on RGP today.

I like the fact that these automatic card shufflers are becoming more common in B&M casinos. They result in more hands/hour, which is good for the players, the house, and the dealer.

But it seems to me with the kind of technology we have, that these shufflers could accomplish more than they do at present. The dealer still has to face and straighten the cards, place them carefully in their cradle, and carefully pull out the next deck. It seems to me that some of these tasks could be handled by the right piece of equipment.

Don't you think it's technologically feasible that the dealer could just push the whole mess of cards into some kind of slot, and the shuffler could do the rest? Also, couldn't the device shuffle the cards and then present them to the dealer automatically? Instead of open the box, reach in, remove the cards, he/she could just grab the new deck and go?

When I deal in a home game, I push the used deck to my human shuffler, who gets the deck completely ready and puts it next to me. After finishing a hand and getting the "old" deck out of my way, all I have to do is cut the deck and the cards are in the air a second later. It seems to me that this process could be mirrored with technology.

This probably sounds nit-picky. I don't mean it to be. I just think if they are spending all that money to make play more efficient, they should stretch the concept as far as it will go.
