A couple days late, but the world is terrible enough, I don't see the harm in postponing the end of something that's all sweetness and light for a couple days.
The episode itself:
The best part (THE BEST PART) is how they handled the dual Morgans. Who needs the fourth wall, anyway. "Being the youngest is really important. You're the one they hold on to!" "Or not."
In-universe, it makes zero sense for Minkus and Harley to be at Topanga's advice gathering, especially since neither got a chance to speak, but it was nice to see them anyway. And I would be lying if I said I didn't get emotional over that giant gathering of BMW-era actors.
"I'm not talking to you!" "And I'm not talking to you!" "Fine!" "Double fine!" "I taught you that!" "And I taught you everything else!" "THEN WHY DON'T I KNOW ANYTHING?!"
And then Shawn and Turner finally (FINALLY) get to reunite on GMW and everyone melts, me included.
"You're telling us to go." "I told you to go to Yale, too, why didn't you?" ♥ Every show needs Feeny.
I would actually enjoy seeing Will Friedle play Topanga. Not as a long-term thing, but for an episode or something.
Everything about the scene with the other kids trying to say goodbye to Riley was perfect. "Smackle, I'm feeling something." "SADNESS! I'm good at emotions now." That said, I remain uneasy with the whole Josh/Maya thing, the age difference at their ages is too much.
Auggie and Ava in the bay window was a sweet moment.
And then, finally, Topanga makes the decision that I predicted last week would be made. I am not unhappy to be right. If we don't get any more Girl Meets World ever again, I would like to imagine Shawn, Katy, and Maya living not far from Cory, Topanga, Riley, and Auggie, and seeing each other regularly, and the girls growing up together.

And now, the show as a whole:
This brings Girl Meets World to an end. Probably. Michael Jacobs is apparently talking to streaming services about the possibility of picking it up, but Netflix has already said that they're not doing it and frankly I don't think it's super-likely that Amazon Prime or Netflix will, either. It would be nice! It's probably not happening.
I don't think the show ever quite became what it wanted to be, in part because it was on Disney Channel -- and I'm not intending to bash DC here, GMW would not exist without it, but there were moments throughout where you could very clearly see "Disney told us to put in this joke" and "this is the way Disney kidcoms are costumed" and "we did this episode because Disney was doing a theme night and not because it actually fit what we're doing". Not to mention the complete disregard for airing order that Disney showed. I will never get over the placement of Commonism. But there were other factors involved, too, starting with the fact that from the very beginning a vocal portion of BMW fandom was insisting that every episode have a Life Lesson(tm) and immediately demanding to know who the Cory/Topanga of the show was instead of giving them a chance to experiment and develop things more naturally. And also I think there was an element of the writers getting hung up on an idea of What Kids Are Like Now that isn't quite...idk, grounded, maybe. And, you know, the whole stupid triangle plot, I hated that and it messed up a lot of things around it.
THAT SAID. This is a show that I've gotten very attached to (as possibly evidenced by the fact that it's one of very few shows that I bother posting about on LJ these days), and I have a lot of feelings about the characters, both legacy and new. (Zay, man, I'm pretty sure I'm never going to stop having feelings about Zay Babineaux.) And there were an awful lot of moments that got me to tear up or made me feel better after a rough day or week or whatever -- I feel like the scene at the end of Girl Meets Boy, when Cory gives Maya a smartphone and a pack of colored pencils, will stay with me for a long time.
So, goodbye, GMW. And thank you for being part of my life, even if only for a short time.
