Slightly late to the group but I FINALLY SAW THE NEW STAR WARS TODAY.
Warning: spoilers for The Force Awakens under the cut.
First of all, to get the biggest spoiler out of the way, YES HAN DEVASTATED ME. It was narratively appropriate and I got what was coming as soon as Kylo Ren started talking about how he knew what he needed to do but wasn't sure he was strong enough but STILL DEVASTATING. I may have covered my face briefly so I wouldn't have to see the actual moment. But then they showed Leia feeling it happen and SO DEVASTATING.
I adored the new trio. Finn and Rey are the best bros ever and they're so wonderful as individual characters, too. Their mirrored "I can do this. I can do this" moments in the Falcon were so great. AND POE oh my god I wish Poe had been in it so much more because I loved him but I feel like I didn't get to know him enough. NEXT MOVIE, LOTS OF POE AND OT3 PLEASE. Finn running around in Poe's jacket long past when he needed to and then loaning it to Rey gave me SO MANY FEELINGS. Seriously, new OT3. I am 87% sure none of this OT3 is related to each other. (The other 13% is because it's Star Wars so maybe they're all related to each other.)
But in general: This movie gave me so many nostalgia moments, which I was expecting: the first time Luke is mentioned, the first time we see the Falcon, the first time we see Han and Chewie, the first time we see Leia, LIGHTSABERS, etc., etc., but it also did an excellent job of setting up the new generation and the new story. Yeah, it hit a lot of the same story beats as A New Hope, but it did it so well that I'm not going to complain. I love the new trio (seriously, OT3) and they have a mission and a cause and an unbreakable friendship. (Well, maybe Rey and Poe's friendship isn't unbreakable yet, but they both adore Finn and Finn adores both of them so I'm pretty sure it's going to happen.)
I have so many feelings about scared ex-stormtrooper lightsaber-wielding running-into-battle-because-he-loves-Rey-and-Poe Finn right now.
And emo Kylo Ren with anger management problems! HE'S SUCH A GREAT VILLAIN BECAUSE HE'S SO UNEXPECTED. He's basically what prequel!Anakin should've been.
I feel like this post is somewhat incoherent but I'M SO FLAILY ABOUT THIS MOVIE RIGHT NOW. I am neglecting to include 75% of the various moments that made me go "omg i need to talk about this" because this post would be longer than the actual movie if I did.
By the time Luke showed up I was suffering from an overload and almost broke down. LUKE AND HIS BEARD OF SORROW.
EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE OKAY EVENTUALLY.
I NEED TO SEE IT AGAIN.
