Ah, season four. Otherwise known as the year of the writer's strike. It feels really short, which shouldn't be surprising since it's almost half the length of the previous seasons.
* I like that Hurley's vision of ghost!Charlie is rock-star style and not island bum style. I don't know why, it's just cool to me that ghosts in the Lostverse apparently present themselves as they see themselves and not as they died.
* Speaking of which, Claire and Hurley breaking down is harder to get through than Charlie's actual death. :(
* The flashback to the salvagers finding Oceanic 815 at the bottom of the Sunda Trench is still genuinely creepy. I feel like I'm saying that about a lot of things, but, nope, yeah, Lost is really good at the creepy stuff that stays creepy even after you've had a chance to get used to it and you know that it's coming.
* I love the freighter team so much. I mean. Like. Cheering as each of them shows up. That much love.
* Kate's trial is so ridiculous.
* The Constant is literally the best episode of the series. In fact it's one of the best hours of television, period.
* The flashback/flashforward twist in Ji Yeon is still brilliant. And incredibly mean. But brilliant.
* Michael's post-island story still breaks my heart. :(
* Claire's exit from the story still feels cheap. Surely there had to be a better way to get her separated from the rest of the survivors and pulling a Rousseau for three years?
* I wonder how they decided who the crash-survivors-who-died-pre-rescue would be? I imagine Hurley pushed for Libby's inclusion, and I could see either Hurley or Kate pushing for Charlie given that he'd died very recently and was one of the reasons they made it off the island, but who decided Boone needed to be included? And why not Jin -- it would've made Sun's pregnancy easier to explain if they said he survived the crash but died shortly before rescue.
* My favorite member of the freighter team is Frank. Or Miles. Or Dan. Or Charlotte. Or all of them. It's all of them, really.
* The end of this season is so stressful. Everything happens at once! So many people die or appear to die! Sun's scream when she sees the freighter blow up! The island disappears! Kate haunted by Claire's ghost or apparition or out of body experience or whatever the hell she is! Locke in a coffin! I CAN'T TAKE THIS.
* At least there's the Desmond/Penny reunion in the middle of it all to destress the audience a bit. That's a beautiful moment.
Next up (starting Monday, because weekends are apparently for getting stuff done): Season 5, the Oceanic Six, and time travel.
