don't listen to them; listen to me

Ughh, I don't know why I suck at updating LJ, but apparently I do.

This is mostly an RL post, so feel free to scroll past.

Well, I'm still unemployed, and have no real job prospects at the moment, and am in a middling-low swing of depression, so, you know, I've got that "LIFE SUCKS I SUCK EVERYTHING SUCKS" thing going on in my head.

So! Instead of whinging about all that, I've decided to give myself other things to focus on, and I'm starting a bunch of self- and home-improvement projects and trying to disciple myself into an actual routine that isn't sitting around staring blankly at a computer screen or TV screen or book page.

Things I am doing / going to do:

- an informal Unfuck Your Habitat-type project. This I have actually already started and is going pretty well so far. 15-20 minutes of intense house-cleaning per day, focusing on one area at a time. Once I have finished deep-cleaning everything (which is going to take a while longer; this house is full of corners into which things have been shoved and forgotten for years and covered in cobwesbs) I should be able to downgrade that into 15 minutes of maintenance cleaning per day. (This is the project my mother is most excited about me tackling, to the surprise of no one.)

- learning Irish. I've bought and installed Byki's iPod Touch app and have set myself a schedule: get through one list per day, and do a review of previous quizzes once a week to check language retention. I don't expect to become ~fluent or anything but it's a language I've long since wanted to learn and anything I can pick up -- a few phrases or even just a better sense of the grammar/pronunciation/etc. -- will be a start.

- exercise. I'm going to re-commit to the WiiFit and do at least 30 minutes of workout a day. I am insanely out of shape and that will be a problem when I finally get a job again, so I'm going to try and get back into (some approximation of) shape.

- brainstorming for NaNoWriMo, 'cause I still have no clue what I'm going to write this year. Miss Niki bought me "Ready Set Novel!" for my birthday, and I am going to work through every task and suggestion and by November I will have a solid concept.

- online classes. I took a class in World Music through Coursera.org for the hell of it and would up really enjoying it; I think I miss college. So now I'm signed up for an Introduction To Programming class starting later this month and I'm going to continue signing up for interesting-looking (free but reputable) online classes. Learning stuff! Yay!

- LiveJournal! Yes, this is on my list of projects. I am going to seriously dedicate myself to getting back into the swing of updating regularly and try to post once per day. At least at first this will likely mean an upswing in 100things posts, since when I have nothing else to talk about that an easy fallback, but hopefully once I get back into the habit I'll be able to vary my topics a bit more.

- Also, I swear to God as I was lying in bed this morning I came up with another self-improvement project and now I can't remember what it is. Arrrrgh. Well, if/when I remember, it will be added to my list of projects.

Wish me luck?

(I am also, at some point, going to resume my Great Doctor Who EDA read, and tackle another TV show from my Shows I Haven't Yet Watched list, and, you know, try to write fic again, but I'm putting those projects off until I have more fannish energy.)

projects, self-improvement, chica fails, i am not really a functional person, chica tries things, i has an offline life, good luck
