3) Year-End Fanfic Wrap-up
Name the fics you've written this year, a little bit about them and what inspired you to write them. Provide a link if you wish.
In The Mood (Torchwood) - was a giftfic for someone who wanted Jack/Tosh with temporal displacement. Obviously my mind immediately went to Captain Jack Harkness and that AU that every Jack/Tosh and Jack/Jack shipper had to write, the one where they don't get back to the present. It came out lovely, with some writing that I'm very proud of and a really perfect atmosphere and racked up more reviews than I have ever gotten on any other fic. So, yes, terribly proud of it.
Sunnyside of the Street (Black Donnellys) - Teh Niki and I spent spring break in Boston so that I could drag her to a Pogues concert. Our first night in the hotel room, we got there way too late to even consider doing anything that required leaving the room, so we watched Black Donnellys episodes on her laptop and then challenged each other to write fic. I was utterly uninspired and so decided to start by trying to capture Joey's voice in regards to my favorite brother, Sean. It turned out okay although it has no point, no plot, and no message.
Snapshots (no this isn't your life) (Black Donnellys) - second product of our fic challenge, I like this one better. There's a few minor technical issues (for instance: Sean was wearing a leather jacket, not a denim one), but it's a nice viewpoint on a character most of fandom ignores and even though the photography metaphor is overdone and pretentious it works.
Ask Me No Questions (I'll Tell You Lies) (Black Donnellys) - ...okay, you know what I said about Snapshots being pretentious? Forget it, this is the one. Pretentious style choices like you wouldn't believe. Parentheses and strikethroughs used excessively. And for all that I love it, I think the style choices work, and there's three stories overlaid into one, all in 500 words.
Second Best (Lost) - written for over_look, because somehow I managed to fall in love with a character with no canon name, no lines in canon, and very little canon personality. I don't know what else to say here.

Bad Moon On The Rise (Lost) - over_look? Yes.
Five Lies Matthew Farrell Told Because of Tommy Donnelly (Black Donnellys) - I like Matty, he's a cute kid and I can picture him growing up and being really screwed-up because of the mob influence on his life or growing up and breaking away entirely. This was my attempt to play with both the idea of him breaking the cycle of violence and the relationship between Matty and Tommy.
A Bad Joke (Black Donnellys) - a) I love Joanie. Dearly. She's adorable, in a junkie kind of way. b) This fic actually started when I was trying to write something, anything, and scrawled down for an opening line "Stop me if you've heard this one before", which inspired the punch line motif throughout. c) It was also a really large excuse to use the joke "Knock knock" "Who's there?" "Nobody" "Nobody who?" "..." in a fic. Another one of those fics that I really adore how the style choice worked out.
The World Will Break Your Heart (Lost) - another over_look fic, as you might have guessed, but probably my favorite of my Sinjin fics. The relationship between him and Zap came through very nicely and I'm a sucker for telling stories backwards.
Things I Didn't Want To Know (Chess) - written for 1sentence because there were no Chess fics on the comm prior to it being written. Can you believe that? Anyway it's Anatoly/Freddie and was mostly just fun to write, even though there's character death and verbal abuse and people being cruel to each other for no real reason. #12 is a total cheat but is my favorite of the sentences, and one of my reviewers swore it was theirs too.
There Are No Happy Endings (Black Donnellys) - The ending of the Black Donnellys was heartbreaking and made me want to threaten people in order to get another season to fix it. Instead I sat down and wrote this fic. It's five happy endings that might have happened after the cliffhanger, one for each of the brothers plus one for their ma, but really it's a happy ending for everyone because Joanie and Jenny and Nadine and Joey all get in on the things-working-out too. And then, of course, the sixth section reverses it all and lives up to the title of the fic because I'm incapable of happy ever after.
I'm Awake (And You're Breathing) (Doctor Who) - was inspired, however indirectly, by un_love_you. In large part also a product of the fact that the first Martha/Jack icon I made was of the two of them with the text "You remind me of me". So I wrote this and it's short and to the point but I think it works very nicely.
The End Of The Road (Is The Beginning Of Your Life) (Doctor Who) - another giftfic. Which almost killed me. Because I got about halfway through it, stalled out, and then spent several days flailing madly because I realized that what I did have was weird and stylistic and probably not what my recipient was looking for. Then I pulled myself together, found a way to finish it, and OMG do I love the way it turned out.
Such A Squalid Little Ending (Chess) - the first of my un_love_you fics for the claim of Chess. Freddie/Florence, short and not terribly adventurous, and the writing's stilted and awkward and I'm not fond of it. I like the idea behind it, and some of the dialogue between them is quite them, but in general...I hope I can pull myself together and write better ones for the rest of my claim. *sigh*
Undefined and Unobserved (Black Donnellys) - not linked because I still need to crosspost it to fandomfrom3 even though it's actually fairly old now. Written for two_of_us_fic and features a young Sean Donnelly talking to Joanie before she started dating Jimmy. Has some vaguely interesting ideas but doesn't pursue them well enough. I like a lot of the dialogue, though, and the character building is nice.
