duende: it's a Spanish word with a complex meaning that i learned about during the production of "Yerma." it is the spirit, the soul, the passion, the fire of something, specifically art and esp. flamenco. the something that makes it MORE.

Lady Chiltern--one of the main character's in Oscar Wilde's play "An Ideal Husband" and the role i played. specifically important because she represents my first time truly finding myself in my character.

Oscar Wilde--a British playwright (turn of the century, Victorian era) who was flamboyant and fascinating, very successful in his time, and put on trial for being gay, basically. he spent time in jail for being gay/corrupting the youth and developed a sickness that killed him. awesome play about him is "The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde" by Moises Kaufman, and it historically and concisely (and passionately) shows who Wilde was and how his demise occured.

PFLAG--Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (and Trans-persons, but it's not in the acronym). organization i respect and am not a part of, directly, but align myself with in many ways.

Relient K--Christian band i like a lot, sometimes goofy, sometimes poignant, i went to one of their shows and have three cds, and the band is closely related to about 6 friendships i have had.

Fountainhead--novel by Ayn Rand, proponent of the philosophy of objectivism, that i read and wrote an essay on for a scholarship last year. i was intrigued by her philosophy and LOVED the novel. it is about a brilliant architect, Howard Roarke, who the world resists but who refuses to compromise or back down. Rand is all about "self" and we don't agree, philosophically, for the most part, but i loved the thinking the novel made me do. it's massively long, though. (but soo good)

The Laramie Project--a play by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project about Matthew Shepard, a young college student who was brutally beaten and left to die in Laramie, WY, by some other Laramie residents. it was a hate crime--Matthew Shepard was gay. the play is a powerful work that is made up of actual interviews (over 200) the members of the Tectonic Theatre Project had with people in the town after the incident. i am part of a g-town based (currently) group that is working on excerpts of this play, hoping to perform for high schools and colleges and faculties and more. we call ourselves Speak for HOPE (Healing, Openness, Peace, and Equality) and we call the excerpts Lessons from Laramie.

The Little Prince--beautiful little novel duende: it's a Spanish word with a complex meaning that i learned about during the production of "Yerma." it is the spirit, the soul, the passion, the fire of something, specifically art and esp. flamenco. the something that makes it MORE.

The Little Prince--beautiful little novel by Antoine de Saint Exupery. it is deceptively simple and timelessly applicable. it is about love, about growing up, about identity...and, plot-wise, about a little prince who leaves his planet and comes to earth to get a sheep to save his rose from the baobab, and the man he meets and changes in the process. SOO reccommended.

the media--just that, the media. i'm interested in the media, in how it portrays things/people. ads, news, journalism, etc

Winfield--a g-town based band that now has a non-GHS grad member that i like the music of and like the people of. at least one of them is on my friends list...i think two or three..they are four.

hope that helped!
