The Nature of Humanity

I always find it interesting how quick we as people are to rush into anger and frustration, and how slow we are the empathy, compassion, and thoughtfulness ( Read more... )

So finally, one of the passengers said to the father, "Excuse me, is there nothing you can do to quiet your child?" and the father looked at the passenger sadly and responded, "We just lost mommy in the hospital. If you know a way to comfort my child for that, then by all means try it."

What a terrible thing to happen...what a horrible time that must have been for that father and his child.

...I wholeheartedly agree. Society just seems to be unprepared for abnormal situations such as the ones you mentioned. The individual behind the van that stopped for you must have thought the driver in front of them decided to stop for no apparent reason other than to annoy them, and the ignoramus who asked the father to silence his child probably thought the kid was just looking for attention; and will probably never forget their insensitive ignorance that day.

I'm tired of ignorant complacency, i'm tired of short tempers and an unaware, desensitized population. When something happens on the street, nobody does anything. You may have read my...well, heh, multiple posts regarding this sort of thing; but it's true. People expect to walk out the door in the morning, and not have to face any sort of sudden emergency, or change, or something that will effect their daily schedule in any way...

...which is why a few weeks back when a man was being assaulted by another man in Toronto in broad daylight at a gas station, nobody did anything to help him. Nobody stepped in, either as a brave individual or as a powerful group against one aggrivated man harming another. Just couldn't be God damn well bothered. And when it was over and the man hobbled away nursing his injuries? Well, shows' over everyone! Back to whatever we were doing before! It sickens me that so many people just didn't want to bother aleviating the fear, the pain, and the embarrasment that this man was going through, JUST because they didn't want to risk themselves. It's pathetic.

Humanity is capable of so much good, and so much amnesty; yet it's far simpler to be otherwise. To be oblivious instead of understanding, to be cold other than empathetic. This is not to say there aren't many outstanding individuals in this world that are worth mention through the way they live their lives to love their brothers and sisters.

I was driving home in the rain, and there was a girl sitting at a bus stop, with no shelter, soaking wet. I've been in this situation before, so i turned around, asked her where she was going, and took her home; simply because i'd want the same done for me. It would have taken her hours to get home by the bus because of all the streets closed off because of downed trees and power lines. I had the time, so I did it. Simple.

I think if everyone listened to more Phil Collins, we could change this crazy world around.

nice response. =) Thank you for your opinion. I think what you did for that girl was very thoughtful, and as a car-less individual, I too often wish a driver would stop and give me a ride... but then I think about how even if one did that I'd likely decline, especially if it's a male, simply because there's too many weirdos out there hahahahaha

So.. in a way it's ironic that we long for compassion and yet due to the evil nature of a minority, we fear the majority...

Oh well XD

Rachelle. I never said this, but I'm actually thankful for what you've done. Thanks so much for putting so much effort in this Potter Party. I'm saying this cause I feel bad for not being able to do anything to help. It's gonna be fun, I honestly can't wait ^^
