These three episodes felt a little filler-ish. They are all self-contained (although the second episode bleeds into the next superficially) and neatly resolved. I really liked the middle one, because Chagum is rapidly becoming my favorite character and I like it when he totally screws up and Balsa has to be all mom-like.
Balsa gets a few chances to fight this volume, and the fights remain a really good point of the series. I still love Balsa, but now that's there been more pictures of Korra (the new Avatar: The Not Quite Last Airbender series, coming soon much later than everyone wants!), I want more arm muscles. Balsa's a spear wielder, for god's sake. I want deltoids of goddamn steel.
I don't like to repeat this over and over, but sometimes I can't believe that this show is four years old, the CG looks so bad. And then they'll have good CG. I'm guessing this was because of the vagaries of a television animation budget, but seriously. Is it that hard to animate a dragonfly? If you can't do it well, why not have an atmospheric pan of the rice paddies or something? That would be much cheaper and easier. Something doesn't have to be moving in every frame, you know.
*sigh*
I'm still enjoying this show, but sometimes the animation throws me so much that I feel a bit let down.
