A song for you

I've been wanting to do a meme lately...but haven't found any good ones, so I went through the memes that I did in the past and decided to redo this one.

Pick five songs you're currently thoroughly enjoying and upload them for your friends list.

1. HOCC - Cocoa [何韻詩 - 可可]
A warm, upbeat song from Hocc's latest album, Heroes. The lyrics are about a "superhero" who has the power to turn things around her into chocolate. It's a seemingly useless ability (except to fill the stomach!), but she is not put down by it, believing in her own abilities to help out somehow. One of my favourite songs in Heroes, although I'd easily recommend any of the other tracks.

2. Khalil Fong - Su Li-Zhen [方大同 - 蘇麗珍]
I knew there had to be a Khalil song in this list, but I struggled for a long time to put which one on, because I love so many of them! XD Finally settled on an older track from his second album This Love in the end; the song title is the female lead's name in Wong Kar-Wai's classic film In the Mood for Love (花樣年華), featuring Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung. I haven't watched the movie (though I'm planning to sometime later!), but apparently Maggie's character is a woman who thinks too much about things--both her spouse and Tony's wife cheated on them, and Tony and her started became attracted to each other, but at the end, when Tony asked her to leave with him, she refused, afraid of how society would view them. Khalil's song is light and charming, but in truth, it's still dragging on and on and on, just like Maggie and her overthinking! ♥

This Love is probably my favourite Khalil album out of the five he produced so far. I honestly love all the songs here. :)

2.5. Khalil Fong - Little Insect [方大同 - 小小蟲]
Sorry, I just had to add an extra song in. I was watching Khalil's MVs on YouTube earlier and this song's MV was SO CUTE and made me giggle all the way through. Go watch it NAO!

3. Jason Mraz - 1000 Things
I first got into Jason Mraz's music when "I'm Yours" invaded the radio...but his light and easy voice aside, I love the spontaneity in his live performances more than his studio-recorded albums. "1000 Things" is one of the tracks from his early Live At Java Joe's album; imagine sitting in a coffee house with a hot cup of coffee in hand, while listening to his performance as he work his magic through his voice and his guitar! What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon--I hope I'll get to see him live one day.

4. Holly Cole - Waters of March
A cover of the Brazilian bossa nova classic. Holly Cole's smothering alto gives this rendition a dark, lean touch, and the arrangement, with the addition of the piano, adds to her voice beautifully. I actually prefer this cover to the original. :)

+ 5. Mr. Children - Gift
I've had this album sitting around for a while but never got around to listening to it until now XD "Gift" is probably my favourite track; it's filled with positive vibes, and the lyrics are beautiful.

Bonus

+ Cindy Yuan & Jay Chou - Sand Painting (袁詠琳 & 周杰倫 - 畫沙)
A R&B duet penned by the newcomer Cindy Yuan. I like the unusual modulation to tonic minor in the chorus, and the soothing melody, although the vocal effects at the end sound deliberate and not natural...the instrumental solo bits too, actually...but it's still a good song overall, and definitely a nice try for her first album. No MP3, just a link to the YouTube MV since her album is not released yet.

+ Faye Wong - I Do (String Orchestra Ver.) [王菲 - 我願意]
This is a classic by Faye. Don't think I need to say more... :) Uploaded the string orchestra version found in her latest "best of" compilation.

+ Jason Mraz - Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Two months till Christmas, I know...but I couldn't resist adding this in. Another live performance by Jason Mraz, filled with cheerfulness and catchy rhythms.

All right, so I did eight nine songs in total instead of the required five. XD Enjoy!

On a side note, slightly bothered by a sore throat these few days...hopefully I'm not coming down with a cold.
