Secret Santa Part 2 :)

Jan 01, 2011 01:21

Part 2 of the secret santa gifts. :) Please ignore this too, guys! Thank you <3

Characters/Couples: Miharu/Yoite
Rating: G
Warnings: None, and no spoilers. It's set sometime randomly during my own imagined ending of the series, and includes nothing from the actual ending of the series. So as long as you've read far enough to know the name of Yoite's new cat, then you should be fine. :)
Disclaimer: I don’t own “Nabari no Ou."
Notes: This random fic has no explanations for the events that happened. You can assume Shinra used her powers, or whatever you wish, because I never actually explained. Most important here is the interactions between Miharu and Yoite. Enjoy!

Untitled

Miharu ran up to the boy, ignoring the cries of his confused comrades and narrowly sidestepping his fallen enemies. The world no longer made sense to him, it was suddenly revolving around this immobile body lying in the grass. He tried to think rationally, to process the words his friends were saying to him, but his mind wasn't working right; he couldn't tear his eyes away from the unconscious boy; he couldn't stop his legs from racing with all their might towards him. It wasn't that Miharu didn't care about his friends' concerns - because he did, so much that absolutely terrified him, but...

But.

There was just something about this boy, one who appeared to be older than him, whom he - for some inexplicable reason - wanted, needed to protect, so badly it hurt.

There was some strange fragility in his eyes that made him want to take a boy he didn't even know in his arms, and -

Never let him go.

Unable to help himself, Miharu immediately gave into this urge upon reaching the boy, and gently lay the still body onto his lap. There was silence for a time - even the air around them seemed to have silenced itself. He found himself wondering if time had actually stopped - but then the boy's eyes fluttered and then opened, and sounds and time continued.

"Mi-Miharu?" the boy whispered, raising his hand up shakily, as though to confirm the figure in front of him was tangible, real. Again, instinct took over, as Miharu grasped that faltering hand and led it to the place it belonged - his cheek. Why did this all seem so familiar? Why did he feel like he had done this before - could do this forever?

"Yes, I'm here-" The lines were instantaneous, but empty, almost incomplete. He could feel it in the unnatural pause his lips made, could sense it in the sudden tensing in both his and the boy's bodies, and could even see it in the boy's eyes, which quickly widened and watered and withdrew from his gaze. Desperately, not wanting whatever they had - whatever this was - to fade, Miharu cupped the still lingering hand on his cheek with one hand, and reached for the boy's chin with the other, gently lifting it until the boy's eyes were meeting his again. Silently, he searched for an answer, the single explanation that would complete the words he meant from his heart, prove they were truthful, erase that horrid sense of insincerity oozing from them.

And, slowly, it began to dawn on him that -

"Yo-"

A name -

"-i-"

-belonged-

"-te."

there.

"...Yoite...Yoite. That's your name, isn't it? Yoite!"

Every time he said it, it sounded more right. He wanted to say it forever; thought that he would be content merely repeating it for all of time. The boy - Yoite! - smiled, exuberantly, and nodded just as excitedly. He barely seemed able to control his happiness at this small reaction, and leaped up, wrapping his arms around Miharu and pulling him into a bone-crushing hug.

This hug, too, felt all too familiar, and Miharu wasn't even conscious of wrapping his arms around Yoite's back. His thoughts were racing, and all they thought about was Yoite. He thought of the hand once on his cheek - so soft, so porcelain white; the white that had cupped his cheek had been so pure, so untainted, and those eyes had been...open! Comprehending! Eager! Understanding! His legs, too - he didn't even know why they mattered to him! But he had seen them shift, slightly; knew there was more than just air beneath his pants legs...and the thought just - blew him away. His legs were here, his arms were strong and sure, his back was warm and comforting, he was here! He was here! Yoite was here and Miharu, too, was also -

"-Here," Miharu whispered, out loud. "I'm here. You're here!"

His eyes were welling up and his throat was all choked up, and he couldn't even remember why. But Yoite - he just meant so much. Even though the memories were gone, the feelings weren't. In fact, his absence had made them grow, and now...now they were all spilling out.

His tears, his voice, his feelings - everything was spilling out in such a rush - and Miharu couldn't choke them out fast enough, nonsensical as they were. "You're-you're here! I erased you, but you're back! Yoite, you're here! Yoite, Yoite, y-y-you're here! I-"

Yoite's sole finger upon Miharu's mouth successfully freezed his speech, and his voice died in his throat, the frenzied tirade ending in a sob. The two sat, firmly hugging each other for a moment. Everything had fallen silent again, and everything was still, except for the slight shaking of Miharu's tiny frame. Then, when it became clear Miharu's silent crying would not end anytime soon, Yoite pulled slightly away and looked into Miharu's face again. His hands raised, so much surer now than before, to Miharu's cheeks. He was encased in a beautiful, sure white, and Yoite's face was-coming closer, closer-

The lips slightly brushing his forehead felt so familiar, too...

What was it about that simple touch that could calm him so easily? Miharu didn't understand, but nonetheless his body's shaking stopped in its tracks, the sobs forcing their way from his throat silenced, and even the tears slowed. He looked up at Yoite, calmer now, but still so tormented inside, and whispered, coherently this time, what bothered him so:

"You're here, even though...Even though I erased you."

Yoite smiled at these words, and shook his head slightly. "You didn't really erase me, Miharu...Because I was with you all along."

His lips lowered towards Miharu's face again, but this time bypassed his forehead, aiming instead for his own lips. Had they done this before, too? No, not when they had been together-

-As humans, anyway.

But he'd pecked Yukimi's cat on the lips several times, hadn't he? Little Yoite had seemed so innocent, so human-like, in the way he reacted afterwards - something about the way he started, and then ran, had made him seem almost shy and flustered. Miharu had jokingly entertained the thought that Yoite was embarassed about being his first kiss. But-

There was something...too familiar about the way the human Yoite's lips felt against his. The way in which the human Yoite pulled away so suddenly, despite being the one to initiate the kiss, was so much like the cat's own reactions to Miharu's playful kisses. Even the manner in which Yoite then looked down, pressing a hand to his burning hands, was reminiscent of the cat's habit of rubbing his paw across his cheek after each playful peck.

"You...really have been there for me all along, haven't you?" Miharu finished his thoughts out loud, finally feeling completely calm, despite the tears blurring his vision and the overwhelming heat in his cheeks.

Yoite, also rather red, looked back at Miharu and shrugged, shyly. His lips were curling upwards, though shyness seemed to prevent them from breaking into a complete smile. "Well, I-I finally realized who I am...I'm Yoite, and I am he because of the love you and Yukimi showed me. I didn't want to leave you guys alone after - after you made me feel human again."

Miharu, too, fought the smile emerging on his lips the entire time his friend spoke. But as Yoite's words came to a close, something in them struck a chord, and fighting became futile as he flat-out beamed.

"Yoite, you're talking like such a guy!"

Yoite frowned, nervously. "Does it sound weird?"

Miharu's smile couldn't grow any wider, but it damn near hurt his cheeks trying. He didn't even know why he was so happy, wasn't sure if even the Miharu who had all of his complete memories of Yoite would understand what had happened. But, for some reason, it felt like they had reached such a momentous milestone.

"No," he whispered, softly. "It suits you perfectly."
*************
How I imagined that last part going:

Miharu: You're using "ore!"

But "you're using the masculine pronoun!" doesn't come across quite the same way in English, so I decided to rephrase it as I did. I'm not sure if it makes sense, though...But anyway, the point is that Yoite finally sees himself as a person and a guy (rather than a "Shinigami" and a "thing") and thus uses the masculine "ore," rather than the somewhat gender neutral "boku." I thought that was an important part of the manga, so I thought it'd be a good way to end the fic. ^^; Miharu never knew about Yoite's past, so he couldn't have even the slightest inkling of why this is so important, but he is subconsciously aware of Yoite's self-loathing, and thus can tell something has changed...

After this scene, I imagine they went back to Yukimi's house, where Yukimi made them lemonade and then sat by the computer, moaning incessantly about brats in an attempt to drown out the obnoxious sounds of them making out on the couch. :P Kidding! But I hope you enjoyed, though it is rather ranty (like I don't clearly always rant...XD)

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your fics, and I hope you have a wonderful New Year! :)
