Exactly! I think about the S2 finale when Arthur's all vulnerable and like "but we'd be friends if I wasn't the prince". Yes. They would. Were Arthur not the prince, Gwen wouldn't give him the time of day, which makes her sound like a gold digger. And she's NOT, but there's really no flattering way to put the situation.
I try to understand Arthur/Gwen. I really do. I go to Arthur/Gwen communities and read episode commentaries and fic and manifestos. I see it as my job, because I'm supposed to be writing episode reviews that appeal to as broad an audience as possible. But I find myself utterly incapable of pandering to a crowd that I cannot understand the reasoning of. If season 1 had never happened and this was a Disney movie and there was no Lancelot MAYBE I would be like "okay fine, Arthur/Gwen", but that is a lot of buts! As it stands, I am utterly incapable of seeing how someone can ship it unless they either hate Arthur/are such a huge Gwen fan that Arthur is secondary, or are just totally oblivious when it comes to what actual

Oh god, they hate me so much. There was this whole thing where they were bitching me out for being unprofessional in a personal journal without EVER LEAVING A COMMENT OR FEEDBACK. Which, I'm fine with people disliking me, but I think it's at least common courtesy to TALK TO SOMEONE you're mad at before just making a big old stink about it and THINKING THEY WON'T FIND OUT. They were also like IT'S NOT HER JOB TO HAVE AN OPINION, IT'S HER JOB TO TALK ABOUT THE SHOW. And no, it is exactly my job to have an opinion. I almost left a comment, but I was talked down. But boy, I wanted to. Seriously, every other tv blog faps themselves silly over Arthur/Gwen. So Heather and I are the only two bloggers who call it out for being ridiculous. I think, in the whole wide world of the internets, they could learn to live with that by maybe, idk, not reading it.See, I'm a Merlin girl, and I can't see why you'd ship him with Gwaine, because Merlin is totally Not Interested. GWAINE REALLY TRIED THIS EPISODE, but Merlin was just like ARTHUR ARTHUR HEARTS

I guess I saw one particular scene from 3.08 as being sort of symbolic when it comes to A/G (and I know it is just one scene, but bear with me). Gwen is waiting for Arthur outside his door as he is just about to embark on this epic quest and...it's a pretty bland peck on the cheek and "later". She kind of has to watch him go. I'm not saying this because I hate Gwen or anything, because I really, really don't, nor to be mean. Just that I think it sort of represents what happens....Arthur will always be going somewhere, doing something for the kingdom, etc. etc, and their relationship takes a backseat.
I know some people are upset that Arthur didn't question Merlin's presence on the Quest. All I can think about, though, is the fact that Arthur looked right at Merlin when it was reiterated that it had to be undertaken by him alone, and yeah...he wanted him there in the first place :)
Exactly! Arthur and Gwen do have a good base attraction. I'm not doubting they're interested in each other, but I question the hell out of their future relationship. Aside from the giant difference in dedication to the relationship, they have nothing in common. It'd make a great high school romance that fizzled out after three months. But attempting to package and sell it as omg true love forever? PUTA POR FAVOR
( ... )
Yes! I doubt Arthur knows what unconditional love looks like, because when has he ever had that before?
I think he really doesn't know what to do with Merlin most of the time. I don't think he even questions half of the weird things that are associated with him anymore :P
