Holy crapballs, Batman! I had no idea when I did my "scientific" study of Colin Morgan's smiles it would be quite so popular. I'm pleased, flattered, and totally don't have time to respond to every comment. So a blanket thank you to everyone who replied. You're all highly excellent individuals. A small correction should be made, however, that ( Read more... )

They are kind of weak, I won't lie. The problem is that the farther and farther right the Republicans get, the bigger and bigger the Democratic platform has to become. Hell, by today's standards, Reagan (cursed be his name) is looking pretty fucking Democratic right about now. Getting them all to agree on something becomes kind of like herding cats, and is, by necessity, centrist.

The double problem is that Republicans decided that their strategy this election cycle would be to force the Senate to a stand-still, and then blame the fact that nothing got done on the Democrats in charge, regardless of how many people might lose their jobs or homes or whatever. WHO CARES IF WE WIN, RIGHT?! The House, which has no filibuster rule, has actually been super-effective with passing tons of very progressive legislation. The problem is the Senate, where even one Republican senator can put an anonymous hold on a bill for no reason, and that bill is dead in the water. I think that there are currently seventy-something bills that have passed the House and are languishing in the Senate that could cure a variety of ills, from education to immigration to environmental issues to jobs. The problem is, the Democrats need, to get anything passed, one Republican to agree with them and, let me tell you, they'll grow old and die before that happens.

So while yes, I am angry at the Democrats for caving on a lot of stuff, I'm not really sure I can blame them. They can fight and seethe and foam at the mouth as much as they want. The fact of the matter is, they're being held hostage, and there's nothing they can do about it.
