So every summer, our family hosts an outdoor movie night for church. We select a movie, run up a bed sheet, and set up a projector. We supply popcorn, they bring drinks and seating. When it gets dark, we start the movie.
The lead-up is a pain in the rear, though, as we have to pick a new movie every year. We haven't hit upon this year's movie yet, but we're running low on ideas, so I'm opening it up here. Can't do it on FaceBook because it'd open the panel far too wide. So here's the criteria:
A) No rating above PG-13. The age range for our audience ranges from 6-Grandparents. The movie has to be entertaining for the whole of the audience.
B) Minimal swearing or otherwise foul language. Any g-d's immediately disqualify a movie regardless of context.
C) Scariness cannot be too intense. Some of the younger audience have a low threshold for that kind of thing.
D) We prefer older movies, or movies that people might not have seen when they were socially prevalent.
E) Disney movies in general, and animated films in specific, gain 'penalty points' on our incredibly fluid scoring table.
F) Movies that have a positive, uplifting message gain bonus points.
Here's what we've shown, from most recent on back:
The Sandlot
Penelope
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
The Mighty
Holes
The Princess Bride
