I always forget this.

Papa Albanese and I have been having a few riffs about what I'm going to do about school/internships/freelancing/jobs after college....and while it sounds like the same old OMG PARENTS bs, it totally isn't what most kids have with their parents. It's backwards.

See guys, I've been thinking for a while and decided that last semester's news class was really just a bad class. and to be perfectly honest i was so depressed about all my friends being busy/having lives/wtvs that i was not really in a good place. So really, that class could probably have been anything, and I would have made it a bad experience.

So, i decided to stop being such a whiney bitch about the news writing thing - because I have to take journalism classes regardless for my major - and just stick with it. I really don't have a choice, and I'm sure if I'm more opened to it as just another way a writing to build up my arsenal, it could actually be sort of cool. Also, it'd be easier to get a job with a degree in Journalism/Creative Writing with a Communications Media studies concentration than like....creative writing.

Having said all that...my dad is kind of bummed about it. See, he's a writer too - he works at the WNYW Fox TV affiliate in manhattan - and he sees this as me sort of giving up on doing anything creative and just working for a big corporate news company like he does. He wants me to keep doing more creative stuff, and not compromise anything i want simply because journalism is more (NOT BY MUCH, LOL) stable.

It's sort of funny that I was the one like BUT HAVING A JOURNALISM DEGREE IS BETTER FOR A JOB and he's all BUT IT'S NOT WHAT YOU LOVE, YOU CAN FIGURE IT OUT. DON'T COMPROMISE YOURSELF JUST TO MAKE MONEY, MILLIONAIRES COMMIT SUCIDE BECAUSE THEY ARENT HAPPY.

It's great that I have parents that are so supportive that our disagreements are basically me trying to be mature and them yelling at me for selling out. But life is about just stumbling along until something works out - which it will, I'm just covering all my bases.

I'm not usually a person who believes that positive thinking can change a situation, but I have a better outlook about next semester, so I really think it will be better. I have Kon and Kristen, and my old LC people who I see sometimes - plus, I have sabs and mimi right next door at SVA to always visit and go home with.

I'll get through it (kristen promised me I would LOL), so I'm back to being excited about going back to school.

going back to school, baruch, news, life updates, slice of life, a better outlook
