Deaf Event!
Wow. Ok, so my first Deaf event wasn't a disaster! YAY!!!! I talked (signed) to a bunch of people, mostly classmates, but a few deaf people & hearing people who I didn't know in addition to Michelle (M-Cookie, our teacher) & Ken (our Tutor). I learned cool (superfine!!!), cousin (although I forget the exact sign now, I'd recognize it if I saw it), due (as in due date), and pregnant. I learned due & pregnant b/c Ken's daughter is in labor now in LA. I saw a bunch of other signs I had no clue what they were. And I forgot simple stuff like (the first one was my teacher's name!!! how horrible is that!) m-cookie, ready, nice, Tuesday (when my tutoring session with Ken & Rachel is) and probably a TON of others, but I can't remember any others off the top of my head now. And I was the "candy girl" there (handing out candy & signing to ask everyone if they wanted any candy or chocolate).
I was surprised how many people were there signing (I'm sure a lot of them weren't Deaf, but a bunch were). It was a lot of fun (and intimidating, too, but it got much better as the night went on).
OHHH!!!! I learned FUCK (or at the very least sex... not really positive on that one)!!! Sorta by accident, but it's ok. I was semi-eavesdropping (on a signed convo - odd concept...). This guy (Levi - I talked to him later) was showing a student behind me the sign & when the student asked what it meant, Levi said 'just guess' - then said he learned it in ASL. They taught it b/c it looks an awful lot like "meet"... And signing "it's nice to meet you" takes on a whole nother meaning when you mix "meet" up with "fuck". He made a joke about liking to rape electricians (since that's what he does apparently... uh, not rape electricians... he IS an electrician... wow, I'm glad i reread that sentence & clarified :) ) instead of liking to meet them. I promptly cracked up. :)
Today? BUNS where I brought Phil a Yuengling, Pizza Night/Deaf event, hanging with Rachel, couple hour long talk with Brad this morning (we just couldn't shut up! it was cool!), found out Sweety's stock is going WAY up, offered a bunch of candy/chocolate to lots of random people at the pizza place, & typed my response paper (for the deaf event) that I will hand in on Tuesday.
Tomorrow? OFF ROADING IN PISMO!!!!!!!! I can't wait - I'm gonna be on a 250 Honda EX 4 wheeler... Which means I'm going to have to learn to use the clutch... Well, at least I have 4 hours :) YAY!
