Barack and Michelle Obama had decided that they wanted to use the song "At Last" for their first dance at the Neighborhood Ball on the night of the inauguration and Beyonce was asked to perform it.
"You know that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she's going to get her ass whupped," Etta said to a thunderous applause. She went on to add that she could not "stand" Beyonce.
Additionally, based on James' rant, she is not a fan of the president either. When addressing the Seattle crowd, she referred to Obama as "your president...the one with the big ears," and added, "he's not my president."

here. Personally, I really didn't like Beyonce's version either. Especially her little "oooooooooo ah oooooo" at the end:
I really, really liked Christina Aguilera's cover of the tune I'd heard years ago and think she really would have been better. Even when she "overdoes it" in her live performances, it sounds better, she has more soul, and damn--despite what I think of some of her songs--that girl can sing:

I've heard Etta James do a new "jazzy" version live in 2007, and tons of others artists have covered the original: Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Jason Mraz, Phoebe Snow, Miles Davis, Martina McBride, Céline Dion, Lou Rawls, Eva Cassidy, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Norah Jones, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Scott, The Manhattan Rhythm Kings, Cyndi Lauper, Aubrey O'Day, and Nikki Yanofsky.
Which is your favorite cover of the song?
My mom thought the Obamas should have had Barbara Streisand sing it, lol.
