"Yama-chan and I go way back," Yuto chirped excitedly to Keito the next day.

"Oh... I didn't know you had such a special relationship with Yamada-kun," Keito commented, feeling irritated for an unknown reason.

"Of course it's special. It's Yama-chan." Yuto laughed.

Keito's hands clenched into a fist. "Ah... I see... well, sorry for interrupting you two yesterday..."

"Oh no, it's alright. I should've told you about staying after school but I guess it slipped my mind?" Yuto rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. "Keito, I' know you're probably... are mad at me.."

"I'm not..."

"You're lying again. Look, I've had enough experience with Yama-chan. After all, we've been though a lot together ever since we were kids. So I've been in your position."

No wonder Yuto could read him so well. It was all because of Yamada... Keito's heart fell at this.

Keito's heart fell as he saw Yuto talking to Yamada. Keito could tell that the other boy was also popular. Maybe Yuto liked him? Why should he even care who Yuto liked?

He thought about it of course. Yuto had other friends. Keito thought he was special. He laughed at himself for thinking that way. Yuto was practically his only friend, too. Without him, Keito felt beyond lonely.

Jealousy filled his heart, almost as if wanting Yuto all for himself. Call him selfish but... it's not like he would do anything about it. He'll just stand there like a spectator, watching. He knew he was weak. He probably depended on Yuto too much.

"You're my best friend!" Yuto exclaimed randomly one day, bouncing.

Keito knew he shouldn't get too excited. He raised an eyebrow. "Isn't Yamada-kun your best friend?"

"No..." Yuto said slowly with eyes full of amusement. "Because you're my best friend, too!"

Keito decided that being one of Yuto's best friends meant something. Even though he knew in his heart, he wanted to be Yuto's only best friend.

"Hey, Yuto!" Keito called out, rushing towards him.

"Hey, Keito. What's up?" Yuto asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I got tickets to go see a new movie that came out.... recently..." The look on Yuto's face made Keito stop talking.

Yuto seemed uncomfortable and flashed him a guilty look. "Sorry... but I already made plans with Yama-chan... but you can join us!"

Keito's heart sank. "Oh... umm... it's okay. You go on ahead with Yama-chan. I'll find someone else."

Yuto gave him a disbelieving glance. "Are you sure?"

Keito faked a smile. "Yeah, of course! Or I can just give these tickets to someone else. Not like I have to watch the movie anyways," he insisted. Keito knew he was lying but he could only cover up his sadness.

"Mmm... how about tomorrow? I'm free so I could watch the movie with you if those tickets can be used tomorrow that is..." Yuto offered with a pleading look.

He automatically curved his mouth upwards. "Sure..." Keito always wondered how Yuto could make his emotions go up and down like a roller coaster but he didn't care right now.

"Wait for me by the school gate okay?" Yuto winked at Keito, which made the latter's heart stop for a brief moment.

"Okay..." Keito murmured, feeling a bit dazed.

Keito waited at the assigned place, a bit excited, okay more than just a bit.

Time flew by slow as he kicked a bottle cap. It had barely been 30 minutes but it seemed longer. He thought about calling Yuto right away but figured he wouldn't be an hour late.

He raised his head and looked at the sky but it was only filled with dark, looming clouds. A cold breeze blew his hair and Keito shivered, hugging himself. Something cold fell on Keito's face and he blinked. A light drizzle began to make him slightly wet.

Keito sighed, feeling depressed. Seemingly as Yuto probably forgot again, Keito gave up and was about to leave when he heard a familiar voice.

"KEITO!"

Keito turned his head and saw Yuto running up to him.

Yuto panted hard, his hands on his thighs. The next thing Yuto did made Keito surprised. Yuto placed his head on Keito's shoulder, breathing hard. "Sorry..." he rasped out.

Keito blushed, feeling Yuto's warm breath on his neck. A sense of relief washed over him at the same time. "It's okay... you're here now..."

The warmth faded away as Yuto pulled back. "I'm seriously sorry... come on, let's get out of the rain first."

"I'm guessing... no movie?" Keito tried to lighten up the atmosphere as Yuto dragged him to the nearest sheltered place.

Yuto didn't say anything but grumbled a bit. "I was with Yama-chan... that's why I'm late."

"Oh..." Keito should've figured.

"He was kinda going emo but everything is all good with him and his boyfriend now. But that was no excuse... I should've called but unfortunately, I forgot my phone at home... but still... sorry, Keito..." Yuto explained.

"Oh..." Keito murmured, not sure what to say. He just couldn't make the heaviness in his heart go away.

"Is that all you can say? Oh...? What's wrong, Keito?" Yuto's brows were furrowed.

Keito's heart stopped for a brief second. Yuto must've noticed him acting sad. "Umm... I wanted to tell you something..."

Yuto suddenly grabbed Keito's hand, holding onto it.

Keito jolted but Yuto just held on tighter.

"It's okay. You can take your time. You can tell me anything."

Keito tried calming himself down, breathing in and out slowly. "Wh-why the...?" He pointed at Yuto's hand.

Yuto frowned. "You look like you're about to pass out or something. Your face seems pale. Plus my mum always did this to help me."

Keito nodded.

After some quiet, Keito took a deep breath. "You're gonna think it's stupid..." he muttered, looking away and ignoring how his heart felt warmer by the minute.

Yuto shook his head. "If you think it's stupid, then to others, it will seem like it, too. Don't assume the worst because maybe you'll get a reaction that you didn't expect."

Keito looked at Yuto intently. He never often saw a serious Yuto. He breathed again and spoke. "Lately... I've been feeling..." He directed his eyes down. "Lonely..." he murmured.

"Eh? Why?"

"Because... you hang out with Yamada-kun and then I realize... how lonely things are without you..."

"I mean I understand that you must have other friends." Keito sighed. "You must think I'm pathetic or something."

Keito reluctantly lifted his head and saw Yuto taking a step closer. He started to back away whenever Yuto walked toward him with unreadable eyes.

"Don't move," Yuto said, making Keito freeze at that spot.

Keito screwed his eyes shut and an unfamiliar yet comforting scent filled his senses. Yuto had wrapped his arms around his shoulders, embracing Keito.

"I'm sorry, Keito."

Keito's heart skipped a beat. "Wh-wha? I d-don't understand..." He somehow felt rejected when Yuto apologized.

Yuto buried his head in Keito's neck, his warm breath tickling him slightly. "I'm sorry that I made you feel this way. No one should ever feel alone. I'm sorry, Keito... sorry for being late and everything... I promise I won't do it again..."

He hugged Yuto back tightly, small tears forming in his eyes. "It's okay..."

"I hate myself," murmured Yuto.

"Don't... because... I know it wasn't intentional and I was probably becoming possessive or something."

"I know being possessive may seem like a bad thing but it's not. It just proves how strong your feelings are... for me."

"Hm..." Keito liked the feeling of hugging Yuto, not letting the last few words sink in. "Yuto, I'm happy."

Yuto laughed. "I am, too."
