Chinen’s eyes slowly opened, feeling his body aching all over. He groaned in pain and just tried to go back to sleep. The light penetrated through the window brightly and hit his eyes. He squinted and finally opened his eyes. Chinen felt warmth and something blowing his face. Takaki was still holding his hand and their faces ended up really close somehow. The older member was breathing, still asleep.
Eh? Why is Takaki-kun still here? I actually fell asleep sitting like this…
Suddenly, Chinen felt self-conscious and realized the distance in between them. He flushed red and retracted his hand. Takaki stirred in his sleep.
Oh crap… did I wake Takaki-kun up?
Takaki turned to his side and murmured, “Chinen…”
Chinen was definitely awake now. Eh? Why did he say my name? Is he dreaming about me? Isn’t he with Yamada or something? I don’t get it…
He tiptoed and opened the door as quietly as he could.
“Honey, you’re finally awake? How about Takaki-kun?” his mom asked softly.
“He’s still sleeping… And I thought that his mom was going to pick him up yesterday…”
“Well she did come but you two had already fallen asleep and she thought you two were too cute. She didn’t have the heart to wake you guys up and left Takaki-kun in my care.”
“Oh…”
“You should go back to your room until he wakes up. Then you can have breakfast after that happens.”
Chinen nodded and went back to his room, gently closing the door.
“Chinen?”
He must be sleep talking again...
The little boy turned and saw Takaki sitting up, back against the headboard. He jolted in surprise and calmed himself down.
“O-ohayou…” Chinen stuttered out.
“Ohayou…” Takaki’s mouth broke into a smile.
“Oh right!” Chinen rushed to the bed and placed his hand against Takaki’s cheek. He moved it up to his forehead and sighed in relief. “No more fever…”
Takaki touched his hand and said, “Thanks to you…”
Chinen blushed and quickly turned away, snatching his hand away again.
The older boy’s had on a hurt expression. “You want to know something?”
“Nani?” I hurt Takaki-kun with my selfishness again… he’s probably telling me that he hates me or something…
“I had a dream… and you were in it…”
“Ehhh?”
“ A-and…” Takaki looked down uncomfortably. “You said that you liked me…”
Chinen’s jaw dropped open and panic flashed through his eyes. He actually heard me??? Eek! This is just too embarrassing!!! I don’t think I can face him!!!
“You also said that you wouldn’t lose me to Ryo-chan…” he continued.
Chinen felt like putting a paper bag over his head. “A-and… wh-what d-did y-you think a-about that?”
Takaki was silent and stared at the wall.
Am I going to be rejected even before I confess? He closed his eyes and hugged himself as if someone was going to attack, bracing himself to know Takaki’s answer.
“It was just a dream… so it’s not that important…” Takaki finally spoke, having those unreadable eyes again. “I’m hungry so let’s go eat, ne?” He got off the bed when Chinen asked something quietly.
“Eh? What did you just say? I didn’t hear…”
“Wh-what if I-I s-said… that your dream actually h-happened?” Chinen stuttered.
“What do you mean?” Takaki raised an eyebrow.
It’s now or never… “Th-those words… I actually s-said them… while you w-were sleeping… I… I actually… l-like y-you, T-Takaki-kun…” Chinen confessed.
Takaki just stood at the same spot, not saying anything.
“Th-that’s why… whenever I… saw you with Yamada… I got hurt… emotionally…”
More silence. Takaki didn’t even budge or have any change in his expression.
“I was jealous… and was in denial… Yabu-kun and Ari-chan tried to help me… but I was too stubborn… But I finally realized my feelings… barely yesterday… I’m too late, ne? I-I mean… you already have Yama-“ Tears welled up in Chinen’s eyes and he couldn’t talk anymore… he felt his throat dry up… and lost his voice, sobbing.
All of a sudden, Chinen felt really warm. Takaki was hugging him, stroking his hair.
“Takaki-kun? Wh-what are you doing?” he rasped out.
“I’m so glad… I really thought you hated me or something…” Takaki mumbled in Chinen’s hair.
“Ehhh?”
“I feel the same way about you… I like you, Chinen.”
Chinen was stunned. “B-but… Yamada? Didn’t you go on a date with him? So doesn’t that mean that you two are dating? And I thought Yamada confessed that day he needed to tell you something! You two were just acting closer than usual!”
“Silly Chinen… on that day, he asked me if I wanted to go watch Kung Fu Panda with him. Just a friendly date, that’s all. Nothing more than friendship. He didn’t even confess or anything. And we were both just having fun. That’s all….”
“B-but… what about calling him Ryo-chan???”
“Oh, Ryo-chan asked me to call him that on that same day he ‘confessed.’” As Takaki said that, he put up some air quotes.
“S-so it was all Yamada’s doing? Y-you don’t like him?” he asked.
“I like him as a friend. The one I like is you, Chinen…”
“I don’t believe it… this has to be a dream…” Chinen said in disbelief.
Takaki pinched his cheeks. “Are you sure it’s a dream now? I like you, Chinen.”
“It’s a dream!” Chinen pouted but was secretly happy inside.
“In denial again? You love being in denial, don’t you?” Takaki teased. Chinen puffed up his cheeks and he chuckled.
“You’re just too cute,” Takaki said, still laughing.
The little boy couldn’t contain his happiness anymore and laughed with Takaki. The older boy embraced Chinen.
Chinen snuggled into the warmth and hugged him back. “I’m so happy.”
“Well, I’m happier.”
“I’m the happiest!”
“Who was the one who kept on crying in the past few days?”
“Be quiet! That’s so embarrassing!!!” Chinen covered his face, trying to hide his flushing cheeks.
Takaki grinned. He took Chinen’s hands and held them. Then he leaned forward and planted a light kiss on Chinen’s right cheek. The latter blushed in response, stomach feeling fluttery and heart going ‘doki doki.’ Takaki switched to Chinen’s left cheek and kissed there, too. The little boy closed his eyes, anticipating a kiss on the lips but Takaki had pulled away.
“Come on, let’s go eat! I’m starving,” Takaki rubbed his stomach and headed for the door.
Chinen pouted again in disappointment but it turned into a smile as Takaki held out his hand, waiting for him. He took the older boy’s hand and followed him to the kitchen.
“Ohayou! Good morning!” Chinen’s mom exclaimed. “Come have some breakfast. I already prepared them on the table so please help yourselves. Now I have to go to work. Bye Yuuri and Takaki-kun.” His mom waved goodbye and left the house.
“I guess… we should go eat?” Chinen suggested as Takaki took a seat at the dining table.
Chinen was about to sit down when Takaki pulled his arm. “Eh?” Chinen had on a confused look on his face.
Takaki smiled. “Sit on my lap.” He patted his thighs with his other free hand.
Chinen blushed. “Then how are we going to eat that way?”
“I know a way…” Takaki finally said as he led Chinen to his lap. The little boy crawled onto Takaki and got comfortable as the BEST member snaked an arm around his waist. Takaki used his other free arm and reached for the melonpan. He waved it in front of Chinen’s face, near his lips.
“Wh-what are you doing?” Chinen asked nervously.
“Feeding you,” he simply replied.
“Ehhh???!”
“You don’t want any?” Takaki frowned.
Chinen shook his head. “F-feeding… me?”
Takaki chuckled. “You’re so cute when you’re shy. Now come on…”
Chinen hesitantly parted his lips and bit into it, flushing.
“Is it good?”
“Yeah… it’s really yummy,” Chinen answered uncomfortably.
Takaki brought the melonpan to his mouth and nibbled a little piece.
Chinen’s small eyes stared at the melonpan and Takaki. In… indirect kiss??? Eek! My first kiss!!! He already felt like fainting. But… I can’t wait for my actual first kiss…
Takaki lowered the bread so that Chinen could taste some more of it. The latter got red again and took another bite. Takaki grinned and whispered in his ear, “You’re just too kawaii, even when you’re eating.” He gave a squeeze and Chinen couldn’t express his happiness in words and could only blush.
