“Yuuri, I’m sorry but... you have to.” Chinen saw his mom’s watery, pleading eyes, tears threatening to come out. “For us,” she whispered.

Chinen bit his bottom lip before he resigned himself. He cursed Yamada Kyou, head of the wealthiest companies. In order to be successful, he would do anything to achieve his goal, even with the means of cornering his parents like this.

He was told to use his cuteness and seduce his son so that the latter would break up with his current boyfriend. Apparently Yamada Kyou didn’t approve of his son’s boyfriend for whatever reason.... probably because he wasn’t at the same level as him or something... What kind of father was that? But Chinen had no other choice...

Immediately, Chinen was transferred to Yamada Ryosuke’s school, leaving behind his old friends.

“This is Chinen Yuuri, the new transfer student,” the teacher announced. He bowed and took a seat behind Yamada Ryosuke, his target. Chinen knew what he looked like since he was shown pictures plus he could see the similar features of Yamada’s dad on him. Somehow the thought of that disgusted him but he had to do this...

Chinen had to make a move so after class while they began to pack up, he tapped the boy’s shoulders. “Yamada-kun?” Then he halted, realizing that he wasn’t supposed to make it obvious that he knew Yamada’s name.

“Yes?” Yamada turned with a questionable look.

Wait, he didn’t blow his cover because he just remembered that Yamada was a popular idol. “Umm.. can you show m-me around?” he purposely stammered. Most people thought it was cute.

“Sure!” a voice that wasn’t Yamada’s exclaimed happily. Chinen turned and saw a smiling boy’s face and his heart skipped a beat. “Chinen, right? Chii-chan it is!”

“Ehh?” Chinen was confused. They weren’t even friends yet and he already had a nickname!

"I’m Nakajima Yuto! But you can call me Yuto!” the tall, slim boy introduced with a wide grin.

Chinen merely blinked at the hyper boy, bouncing in his seat.

“Can you believe he’s so hyper in the morning?” Yamada whispered to him. The little boy nodded his head in agreement. Never had he met someone so happy before...

It was finally lunchtime and Yamada, well mostly, Yuto showed him around. “So then that’s the girl’s gym, so obviously you can’t go in there,” Yuto blabbered excitedly while Yamada and Chinen followed, wondering what kind of statement that was. Obviously, you couldn’t go in... Chinen couldn’t help but smile and nod though. Yuto was certainly an interesting person.

“And this is the cafeteria, where we can eat whatever you want here. Well, more like they give you choices and you can choose from those... there are a lot of choices of food! But they never have horse meat...” Yuto ranted with a frown. “I bring my own since I love my mom’s cooking though....”

Chinen felt a finger on his cheek. “Are you hungry, Chii? Let’s eat!” Yuto exclaimed, poking him once more before sitting down. Chinen’s poked spot felt a bit warmer than usual and he unconsciously touched it, biting his bottom lip. What was this feeling growing in his heart?

Suddenly, Chinen remembered that he forgot his lunchbox due to the commotion back home. And his goal here. His parents were depending on him! “Where can I buy some bread?” Chinen asked, thankful that he brought some money. He had some loose change in his pockets from taking the train earlier.

“You can have some of my lunch!” Yuto exclaimed. Before Chinen could protest, his mouth got shoved a sushi. “Here, have some more.” Chinen didn’t even have time to shake his head and another one somehow got squished in. Both his cheeks were puffed out, like a squirrel stuffing nuts in its mouth.

“Uhh... Yuto-kun, you’re overfeeding him,” Yamada commented, picking up some rice with his chopsticks.

Chinen silently thanked Yamada. His jaw began to grow sore from chewing so much. More like he couldn’t really chew with so much in his mouth. Finally, he managed to swallow the last bit after a few minutes. Chinen was glad he had some water to help him.

“Do you want some more?” Yuto offered, preparing to get another big piece.

Chinen quickly shook his head and gave his thanks. Though, Yuto was smiling brightly at him while eating. Chinen felt a bit uncomfortable with the stare and could feel his cheeks warming up.

Suddenly, he felt a vibration in his pocket. He had received a text message from an unfamiliar number. Don’t fail me. Or else... A reminder from Yamada’s dad. Chinen suppressed a frown and plastered on a smile. He turned his attention to Yamada. Chinen had to get a move on this. “Can I call you Ryo-chan?” First plan was to get closer by calling each other with nicknames.

Yamada’s eyes flickered something unreadable for a split second. Was that just Chinen’s imagination? Almost as if he was suspicious? “Eh? Why? We just met like today.”

Chinen pouted. “Well... I didn’t think it was fair that you guys get to call me by a nickname and not the other way around...”

“Wasn’t that only Yuto-kun, though?” Yamada asked, raising an eyebrow.

Chinen blushed at his mistake. Yamada was right about that. What should he say next? It didn’t seem like this was going to be easy. Getting close to Yamada that is.

“Yama-chan, don’t be a butthead!” Yuto interjected, pointing a chopstick at him. “Let Chii-chan call you, Ryo-chan. It’s so much easier and cuter to say that instead of Yamada-kun, don’t you think so?”

Chinen blinked. Was Yuto helping him?

“Sure... but I mean... Yama-chan is fine but Ryo-chan is a bit...” Yamada trailed off, looking reluctant to explain. Chinen could guess why Yamada didn’t want to be called Ryo-chan.

“I already took the nickname Yama-chan so that’s why Chii-chan chose Ryo-chan. Right?” Yuto turned to him for approval.

Chinen frowned. “Umm... it’s okay. I was being a bit too pushy...” he said, not wanting for this to get out of hand.

Yamada sighed and then smiled, reaching over and patting his head. Chinen looked up in surprise. “It’s fine. I can tell you’re trying hard to make friends.”

Chinen looked down, fidgeting. It wasn’t that he was embarrassed, more like he was feeling guilty. That wasn’t his intentions at all. Yamada was actually a nice person and yet... “I’m sorry... but...” he murmured under his breath before smiling shyly and scooting closer to Yamada. “Umm... thanks for showing me around today.”

“That was mostly Yuto-kun, too, but... no problem,” Yamada said, patting him once more.

He could’ve sworn he saw Yuto frown but then the latter began smiling and asking him a bunch of questions. What was up with him seeing things today? He must have been tired... oh well. This was for the sake for his parents...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As weeks passed by, Chinen tried his best to get closer and closer to Yamada everyday. At the same time, he was becoming stressed with the pressure from Yamada’s dad and his family. Chinen wasn’t able to sleep peacefully nor was his grades any better. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t smart, but with his family situation right now, he couldn’t study. He tried his best to make it seem like everything was alright in front of Yamada and Yuto.
He managed to get as touchy as he could with the idol without crossing the border of friendship. Though, now, most of their classmates thought they were going out.
“I like you, Chinen-kun! Please go out with me!” a girl confessed, offering an envelope with his name neatly written on it.
Chinen smiled at the girl. “I appreciate your feelings. Thank you... but...”
“You like someone else?” she asked.
Did he like someone else? For some reason, Yuto flashed in his mind and he flushed red. “Err... umm...”
“Is it Yamada-kun?” she continued questioning. “Because I would totally approve of you two!”
Chinen blinked as the girl waited anxiously for his answer. Should he lie? It might make it easier on him after all. “Umm... y-yeah... I guess...” The girl began to squeal. “But don’t tell anyone this... please...”
The girl stopped squealing and nodded. “Okay~” Then she walked off and Chinen sighed in relief. She finally left. He turned around and bumped into someone. “Oof!” Chinen lost his balance and fell on his butt. He opened his eyes to see a familiar figure in front of him. “Y-Yuto?” His heart froze. Did Yuto hear the whole thing?
It was eerily quiet before Yuto broke into a smile and hugged him. “Don’t worry! I’ll keep it a secret from Yama-chan! I didn’t know you liked him. You should’ve told me sooner so I could’ve helped!”
“I’m sorry...” Wait... why did he just say that? What was he sorry for? Lying? If that was the case, then to who?
“What are you sorry for?” Yuto asked with a tone sounding unlike him.
Chinen could feel Yuto squeezing him tighter to the point where he was beginning to suffocate. “Y-Yuto? It hurts...” he squeaked.
Yuto pulled back, muttering, “Sorry.” Then he began to laugh. “I was too happy for you.”
Chinen nodded, feeling a headache coming. At the same time, his chest began to hurt to see Yuto’s current expression.
“I’ll see you after school. I have to go somewhere right now,” Yuto told him before standing up and extending his hand.
The little boy stared at the hand and took it, feeling the warmth seeping into his own. With the help of Yuto, he got on his feet. Their hands were still connected and Chinen didn’t want to let go of Yuto.
As their eyes met, they stared for a moment before Yuto looked away and retracted his hand. “See you later, Chii...”
He wanted to tell Yuto to not go but something held him back from doing so. As he took a step, Chinen wobbled a bit. He felt somewhat dizzy but shook it off.
Soon, it was lunchtime and Chinen sat on Yamada’s lap purposely even though he hated to do this, especially in front of Yuto. Chinen wasn’t even sure why Yuto being there even mattered.
He was informed that Yamada’s boyfriend would be visiting and Chinen would finally see the guy that Yamada’s dad disapproved of. And he came. Chinen held onto Yamada’s arm, snuggling against him as the tall, brunette guy with sunglasses walked in. His first impression was that Yamada’s boyfriend had a really good sense of fashion. Of course, no one else in the school knew about Yamada’s boyfriend except for him...
“Hey. You must be Chinen Yuuri?” he asked. “I’m Takaki Yuya, Yamada’s fashion coordinator and assistant manager at the same time.”
Chinen kept his mouth shut and hugged Yamada tighter, resting in the crook of his neck.
“I’m Nakajima Yuto, Yama-chan’s best friend,” Yuto popped up, offering his hand. The same one that held his..
“Wai-” Chinen felt his arms slipping from Yamada’s neck and the last thing he heard was Yuto’s voice calling out his name before he fell into darkness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Chinen fluttered his eyes open and looked around. “Where am I?” he murmured sleepily, turning to his side.

“The nurse’s office,” a familiar voice answered. Chinen rolled to the other side and saw Yamada sitting by his bed. “Where’s.... everyone?”

“Takaki-kun had to go back to class and Yuto-kun went to get some water. How are you feeling?”

Chinen sighed and tried to sit up but failed.

“Don’t push yourself,” Yamada told him, helping him lean against the pillow. “The nurse said you fainted due to stress and lack of sleep. Is everything going alright at home?”

Chinen wanted to say no. He wanted to yell at his stupid dad for making him doing this. He wanted to yell at Yamada for having such a dad. As much as he wanted to do that, he knew that he couldn’t. Chinen had to continue on with his goal... this was the whole reason why he came here. To make Yamada fall for him so his current boyfriend would break up with him. After that, his family and him would be free of all of this. Everything would be back to normal...

“Can I have a hug?” he requested with a small voice. Chinen felt arms wrapping around his small frame as he snuggled against the warm chest. Even though Chinen was this close to Yamada, he didn’t feel his heart beat faster or anything. Though Yamada was warm, Yuto’s hand was warmer to him...

As Yamada pulled away slightly, Chinen leaned closer to his face,with his hands on the latter’s shoulders. His heart was telling him this was wrong. His first kiss to Yamada... Deep down, he didn’t want to do this at all... but...

“Chii...”

Chinen turned his head to see Yuto’s crestfallen face. His heart sunk and his stomach fluttered with too many butterflies. Why was Yuto making that kind of face? Chinen didn’t want to see that face...

“Sorry for disturbing you two!” Yuto exclaimed, before running off.

Chinen bit his quivering bottom lip. A few seconds later, something wet fell down on his arm. Were those tears?

Yamada sighed, running a hand through his brown hair. “Chinen, I know you don’t like me.”

Chinen stayed quiet, as more tears came out. He tried to wipe away the incoming waterworks but it wouldn’t stop. What Yamada said was true. Even now, when they were alone together, he didn’t feel a thing.

“Did you really have to go that far?” Yamada inquired, getting a handkerchief from his pocket and handing it to Chinen.

“Wh-what are you talking about?” Chinen wasn’t sure what to think anymore as he took the cloth gratefully and dabbed his wet cheeks.

“Is my dad using you so that I could break up with Yuya?” Yamada confronted him, staring in his eyes.

Chinen’s eyes widen. How did Yamada know? Did he know from the beginning? Chinen had tried his best not to be obvious... he made sure he didn’t say anything that would give that away..

Yamada looked pissed off and clicked his tongue. “I’ll deal with him,” he growled. “What has he got on you?”

There was no use lying anymore... “M-my parents owe him... and...”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chinen didn’t feel any better the next day even though he found out that his parents were finally freed from the debt thanks to Yamada. The smaller boy apologized countless times but Yamada told him that it was fine and that there was no need to pay him back. His dad was a jerk but finally, thanks to his mom who finally came back from abroad, got thrown some sense into him.
Now, he had no reason to stay here. Chinen could go back to his old school with his old friends if he wanted. It was his choice after all. But something was holding him back... Yuto...
Yuto didn’t greet him that morning. Nor was he the normal hyper boy he usually was. Yuto kept on avoiding them both throughout the whole day. Yamada knew what was wrong with Yuto. After all, they’ve been best friends since the beginning. Eventually, Yamada suggested for him to talk to Yuto.
Chinen was scared but he didn’t want Yuto to be mad at him. “Yuto?” Chinen called out after gathering up his courage. His heart was pounding like crazy.
“What?” Yuto’s tone sounded annoyed as he shoved his books in his bag.
Chinen flinched and went all quiet, staring at the ground.
There was an awkward silence between them and finally Yuto stated, “If you have nothing to say, then I’m going.” He threw the bag over his shoulder and began to step away.
“Don’t go!” Chinen suddenly exclaimed, grabbing a hold of the back of Yuto’s shirt. “Don’t go...” Yuto didn’t understand. “Are y-you mad at me?”
Yuto didn’t say anything and fear filled Chinen’s mind. The little boy cautiously slipped his arms around the taller boy’s waist and leaned against Yuto’s back. “Please... answer me...” he whispered with watery eyes.
“No...” Yuto murmured. “I’m just... mad at myself,” he explained, sighing.
“For what?” Chinen let go as Yuto turned around.
“For running away when I saw you two... I... you see...” Yuto looked like he was having a hard time finding the right words.
“We didn’t do anything...” Chinen said, not wanting Yuto to misunderstand. “More like... I couldn’t after seeing you... Actually...” Chinen began fiddling with his fingers. “ I l-like you, Yuto... not Yama-chan.”
By now, Yuto was shocked. “R-really? But...”. Chinen began to explain the whole reason of why he was here in the first place of his family situation and Yamada’s dad.
Once he was finished, suddenly, Chinen felt himself being pulled into a tight bear hug. “I’m sorry... I didn’t know...” Yuto mumbled. “If I knew... I would’ve tried to help... somehow...”
“It’s okay... thank you, Yuto...” Chinen inhaled Yuto’s vanilla scent. It was comforting and his heart was warm and fuzzy. “Does this mean... y-you like me, too?”
“No...” Chinen’s heart stopped for a moment. “Not unless you stop sitting on Yama-chan’s lap and clinging onto him and being all cute with him...”
Chinen bent back a bit and saw the pout on Yuto’s face. The smaller boy broke into a smile. “I promise~” The mini frown got replaced with a grin.
“Let’s seal this promise then!” Yuto chirped, his arms dangling over Chinen’s shoulders.
Chinen blinked. “How?” How were they going to do that?”
“With this.” Yuto leaned in and pressed his lips over his softly. Chinen slowly fluttered his eyes closed and kissed back, clinging onto Yuto’s shirt. A perfect kiss~
