- Bioluminescence in vertebrates. Evolved bacterial symbiosis? (think mitochondria in humans)
- 6-5-7 gilled sharks. What caused the variance in # of gill slits? What was the mode of selection and what advantages caused the evolution to happen?
- Greenland shark. It's just fucking cool.
- Vertebrate parthenogenesis. (also so damn cool!) Documented so far only in fish. Bonnethead sharks and possibly white spotted bamboo sharks. Perhaps some species are either hermaphroditic or evolved a way to produce offspring using only the female's eggs. What are the conditions that could have selected for this? And are there associated genes with the ability for parthenogenesis to occur?
- Icthyosaur extinction possiblities
- Wooly mammoths....dunno where I'd go with that, but I saw something on the discovery channel and have to remember to watch it sometime next month.
- And I still have that idea about the divergence of Archaea and Bacteria. Ether vs. Ester linkages why they evolved...that might be my most solid idea so far =( but it's the most boring!
