Glory to the People's Republic of Swedonia!

There goes the last shreds of my productivity! I discovered Minecraft last night, and I'm positively addicted to it.

I started a new world called 'The People's Republic of Swedonia', and the seed from which it was generated? 'Seeds are pretty damn sexy!'. This landed me on what appeared to be a land full of just sand with a rather bizarre topping of snow - what a combination!

First on the agenda was shelter, so I basically went around punching trees and collecting wood. I made myself a crafting chest first, with which I converted the rest of the wood into planks. I'd been running around punching trees for so long, though, that night was beginning to fall as I built a rudimentary shelter: A foundation that was about 4x4 in size, with a small wall running around it about 1 block high. I had no bed (you sleep in the bed and pass the night quickly), so I basically had to wait it out.

The thing about Minecraft is that it seriously isn't safe to go out at night. As soon as the sun sets, the zombies, skeletons and creepers come out, and they can kill you quickly. That's why it's recommended you get a shelter as soon as possible.

The next day, I moved away from the sand and snow terrain to some more normal land across the sea. Here, I built a proper house with full-height walls, a roof and a door. I put a bed in there, but night came too quickly and I didn't have the chance to make any torches - torches prevent the nightly nasties from spawning nearby so it's recommended you cover your house in them.

Now, a few in-game days later, I've punched a few sheep, been woken up once by a zombie in the house and twice by skeletons. I put torches in (after making a furnace) which put a stop to that. I got (and accidentally killed) a pet wolf called Brutus, who kept getting in the way as I was chopping trees, getting attacked by spiders or falling off my roof because he was a blithering idiot, albeit an adorable, pixelated one.

As I was in the process of expanding upwards, I kept getting mauled by spiders. To put a stop to this I stopped building upwards after two floors and put a lookout on top, fenced in so the buggers couldn't climb over. It was in the process of getting more wood for this that I came across Brutus the Second, tamed him and took him home with me. And then I discovered that I could have saved Brutus I with a simple cooked porkchop. Oops.

Anyway, that's where I'm at with Minecraft now. I have my two story house with a lookout on top, full of torches to deter the nasties. I'm thinking of making a proper tower somewhere so I'll have somewhere to stay should I venture further away. I've created a grave in the 'back garden' (well, it's a signpost; that's the best I could manage) for Brutus I that says "R.I.P Brutus the First (It was my fault)".

And then Minecraft died as Ashley was trying to get on to it this morning. He's managed to uninstall it while keeping our saved games so The People's Republic of Swedonia is intact - but the game isn't working and I was getting addicted to it and it makes me sad and I miss Brutus the Second.

Anyway, enough of that lark. I've got another busy day ahead of me today. First off I'll be interviewing a girl at Cowley International College at 11.30am. As soon as I get back I've got to head straight to TNG to fill in the timesheets that I've left neglected and probably get a few of these bus tickets refunded while I'm at it. I'll be seeing Jason today for the first time since last weekend, and we'll be going straight back to Lee's from work for obvious reasons.

Dad's finally filled out an adoption form for a German Shepherd rescue dog! He tweeted about it while I was in work yesterday and it turns out he a) doesn't need to sort out a vet first like he thought he did and b) doesn't have to restrict himself to this area. If a dog comes up in, say, Sheffield needing a home, then he's allowed to take it providing he can make the trip to pick it up!

I had a feeling this would happen, really. I knew we'd get a dog either just before I go off to university, or after. Plus Dad's talking about taking Nathan and Ashley to the Silverstone Grand Prix next year - again, while I'm gone. Why does all the good stuff happen when I'm not there?
