As Self-Imposed Bans are Rubbish, I Should Get Steve to Ban Me From Leaving the Newsroom at Lunch.‏

I should be banned from leaving the office. Seriously, I should. Yesterday I went out for 'dinner' and yes, while I did have a large portion of curry and chips, I also came back with four CDs: 'Infinity Land', 'Blackened Sky' and 'The Vertigo of Bliss' by Biffy Clyro and 'The Very Best of Frank Zappa' (no guesses as to who was responsible for that particular compilation). Today, the same happened, only with no food and 'We Can't Dance' by Genesis.

Five CDs. Cheap as hell, yes (I spent £10.98 on them in total, which isn't bad), but that's not the point. I'm supposed to be saving money, and here I am buying CDs willy-nilly. I really am awful with money.

So far I've gotten through four of my now fifteen job long list. I can see myself managing another two easily - one job for each hour that remains of my working day. After that, it's home to be fed, charge my phone, bath and get ready for the pub quiz tonight. Hooray!

I love days like this where there's loads for me to do. I feel a bit useless otherwise, sitting and thumb-twiddling. I suppose while we're on the subject of work and it's Thursday we should discuss my bylines...

Here we have what is probably one of my best stories yet: after the horrific news about Spike the cat and his crossbow ordeal, a second pet owner came forward to say her cat had been shot with a 22-calibre air gun. I covered the second story of the two and it was just perfect timing from a journalistic perspective, after the crossbow cat story. This is probably one of the few lead stories I've done so far, and I hope it'll pave the way for me to do more.

My second byline is in the paper but doesn't seem to have made it onto the Star's website. It was about a local school designed to meet the needs of children with complex learning difficulties such as autistic spectrum disorders, physical disabilities and communication difficulties.

Basically, they're having their first ever leaver's prom - the school wanted to do something a bit different as a send-off to its Y11 class and presented a questionnaire to staff, pupils and parents. The vast majority wanted a prom like the mainstream schools have, and so that was what they decided on. Local organisations and businesses had donated towards it - for instance, a carpet place donated a red carpet, another company donated table decorations, a stationary company contributed invitations and place markers... The article I wrote was partially covering the event and partially appealing for donations to make the prom absolutely perfect.

So yep, there's my two bylines! A lot of the stuff I've been working on has been left out of this week's paper because we've had a crazy newsweek - all kinds of things have happened like a serious motorcycle crash that killed a young dad, a cannabis farm being discovered at a home being rented out by a local MP and the latest in a string of armed robberies at Waterfields bakeries around town. I've got a few good stories waiting for next week, though, so we'll see.
