In Which Kelza Takes the Piss Out of Television, Eats Toast and Studies Medals for Work.‏

Yesterday was awesome. Towards the end of the day I found myself suddenly quite busy so the hours rushed by. I found myself tasked with yet another interesting story about a bunch of medals, old photos and badges discovered in the shed behind the Kirkfield Hotel in Newton; this morning I went down there before work to have a look at them and get an idea of who they'd belonged to and where they were from so I could do a good write-up. I finished the piece this morning and I'll post it up as soon as it's out in the newspaper.

Anyway. Yesterday. I met Jason as usual in the reception of the Star office and then we went to - can you guess where we went? - The Glass House. It's a regular haunt of ours now, but it's such a nice place - not too loud, you can hear yourself think and make conversation, trips to the bar aren't suicide missions from which you never return... and the food and drink is pretty good!

Jason had money, courtesy of his brother Glen paying him back, so he once again bought dinner and once again left me feeling guilty. At least the coffee I ordered was free, thanks to the Wetherspoons loyalty card we've been working on for weeks. It's £1.50 there for a large coffee that looks more like a Café Nero regular. No Magners this time - we each had a large coffee and a roast dinner - mine with chicken, his with beef, and we exchanged the usual banter.

Apparently the reason all his calls to Suzanne, the woman sorting out his Exeter trip, went unanswered, was because she knew him by his Mum's old phone number. So when he tried contacting her on his new phone, she didn't recognise the number and so didn't answer. And she'd been trying to contact him on his Mum's old phone... so it was all a big faff. Thankfully, the mess-up doesn't rule him out of his horticulture course. She's apologised and they're going to rearrange the interview. Too right!

After we'd finished our dinner we braved the glaring sun and wind. For once the weather forecast was right - I've never seen the sun so bright, I couldn't see a buggering thing, and the wind threatened to rip the beret off my head. We walked back to his - well, I stumbled, more like, in these heels, his left hand in my right, my right hand clutching my hat so it wouldn't get blown off.

And he got grit in his eye, again. Funny how it always happens to him. Actually, it's kind of 'his thing' now. The other week I got grit in my eye while waiting for the bus in the morning and immediately thought of him. Awfully romantic, isn't it?

Back at his, we found his Mum and Stepdad in the back room with one of the rats out - Bashful, a gorgeous but huge female, with a brown front half and white everywhere else. I got to hold her for a minute while Jason made us a cup of tea. Then, his Mum suggested that I stay over in coming weeks - they're going away on holiday soon, which means Jason and I would have the house to ourselves. This is an opportunity I've been looking forward to for quite some time.

They showed me some brilliant pictures and videos of rats past and present - some cute, some downright hilarious, like the picture of the one lying on its back, being fed kitten milk - and some of Jake, too; the crazy, brainless Golden Retriever that thinks it can walk through walls. There are some funny stories about that dog...

After that we retreated to the couch to watch TV. Well - 'watching TV' for me was more like taking the piss out of Eminem, taking the piss out of the news, taking the piss out of Hollyoaks... all while his Mum fed me toast and waffles and this gorgeous coconut-filled chocolate from Lidl!

When TV got boring and I couldn't be bothered ranting any more, we decided to spend the last three hours or so up in his room - another little tradition of ours.

And there you have it! That was my Monday! Awesome as usual.
