Good news sports fans if I really wanted to I can cook a pizza now. Of course I don't have any place to put the pizza once it's been cooked but the first appliance is in and the cabinets are nearly finished. Yes ladies and gentlemen we have a kitchen. So I took some photographs again to update the masses on the latest progress of said kitchen. I don't think I'm going to run out and get a frozen pizza to cook anytime soon but I can if I wanted to and that's a good feeling.
So here's the kitchen now:
Cabinets oneSee that space between the island and the cabinet on the right. There used to be a dishwasher there. Those shelves are where we're going to put all our cookbooks that we use. Psh yeah right like we really use them all.
Cabinets twoAnd there we have our first appliance a double oven. Too bad mom didn't get the convection option. We have a counter top version if we really need the convection. There's a drawer below for holding baking sheets and cake pans. Those cabinets above are good for holding the things we use on occasion like certain glasses. Hey our boxes of fun Christmas tumblers can go up there.
Cabinets threeOkay okay I know there's a hole in the wall and both mom and the contractor know it needs to be fixed. We're not sure what came out of that thing. That curved corner cabinet replaced a couple of cabinets where we once housed our glasses and other small containers and bowls like ramekins. Now that cabinet and the one below it, where our compactor used to be, house two lazy susans. What they'll hold we haven't quite figured that out yet. The gap in the lower cabinets is where our new compactor will go. Next to that is where the cook top our microwave will go. We replaced that old space with the upper oven. That little cabinet next to the window is where I suggested all our OTCs, first aid junk, and prescriptions will go.
Cabinets fourThe sink, while not in yet, will go here and next to the sink will be that dishwasher. When you take out the place where it once was you have to find a new place for it to go. That space can be seen here. Next to that is where the phone will go on top of that set of drawers. The cabinets above will be where all our pyrex and our glasses and maybe the plates will go. Yeah, it'll feel weird to not be putting the plates and bowls on the right side of the fridge but mom says that's just where things will go now.
Cabinets fiveWe used to have a desk. A desk that did not have a chair that nobody used. A desk with a shelf and some cabinets above it that didn't house a whole lot of stuff we used on a regular basis. The desk was a housing ground for our boxes of checks, a lot of junk, and our fax machine. Now it'll house our mail (see the slots), our fax machine (there's an outlet in where those open doors are), and in drawers below all our files (bye bye plastic file cart in the family room). The nice space next to it where the microwave oven is standing is where our side by side nice looking cabinet front fridge with water line for ice and filtered water will go.
As you can see from the photos, our cabinets have a nice rope trim to them. The space above them that you see clearly in the last photo will be covered with trim pieces. No one will know there's vent pipes above the cabinets. It's all coming together now and mom and I have to get our rears in gear and start putting things back. Holy hell we have so much to put back. It's going to be a looong week. It was all worth it.
