"Ding" Darling Wildlife Society Photography Contest

May 20, 2007 01:06

The time has come again for the 2007 "Ding" Darling Wildlife Society photography contest. Each year the society holds a contest for amateur photographers. The photos are to be of things taken around the "Ding" Darling Wildlife Refuge over the last two years. Each October during their Ding Days celebration, the society picks the thirteen top photos from the entries received. The three winning photographs plus ten honorable mentions are placed on display for visitors to the refuge's nature center to view. The last time my mom and I went to the nature center, I got the inspiration to actually submit something for the upcoming contest. I said to myself, "You know, if a guy from Hinsdale, IL can take third place I can do this too." I have some decent photographs from the last two years that I've visited the refuge. In 2006, I took a lot of good photos of snowy egrets. This past February, or was it March, I took a great close up shot of an immature yellow-crowned night heron. I'm pretty certain what I want to submit come this June for the contest. I can send in two matted photos but what they are I don't really know yet. Well, I do know I want to submit that heron and maybe one of the egret photos I have. The question is though which egret photo do I want to submit. Time to dig through the Florida folder and the old CF card and choose a couple of great shots.
