I am a bit late but I would like to welcome the newcomers with this speech.
Fandom is not just a fad, not something you change like socks. True fandoms is following a show or manga with the tenacious spirit of YOUTH! Setting up alerts, searching the WORLD WIDE WEB High and low for that plushie or keychain! It is an amazing thing full of sweat, blood and tears!
I was visiting the YOUTHFUL and pink singer Shindou Shuichi with my sensei, when I happened upon a strange sight of many people in odd costumes. I learned that this is the amazing art of cosplay. truly a challenging field! Curious, I spoke with one who resembled my favorite character from the ACTION PACKED anime, Bleach and was invited along with them to my VERY FIRST ANIME CONVENTION *sobs* It was beautiful! I met so many people dressed as my favorite characters and even spoke to the voice actor who does my voice in my show. It was a strange experience. I do know, however that I shall make my first cosplay by next week or I shall add 400 extra laps to my usual morning routine! OSU!
