Hey everyone!
Some of you read Matt Wagner's LJ, so ya'll probably have heard by now, but for those of you who don't, there's some big news in the world of animation.
About 6 or so years ago a little indy animation studio in France called Sav! The World released a trailer for a show they were pitching. It was then called Molly Star-Racer. It looked like a crazy fusion of Reboot and Wacky Racers, with the main character somewhat resembling Cowboy Beebop's Ed. Japanese music, neat CG, lots of cool characters. It looked to be awesome.
This past Saturday it *finally* premiered on Toon Disney. FINALLY.
Matt tipped me off, and I managed to find a torrent of the pilot, which was two half-hour episodes stuck end on end. It is totally sweet. It's predominantly 2D cell animation now, but the races are CG. It looks like Sav! partnered with some of the bigger Japanese animation studios to make this one, and the production quality really shows through. Plus, the voice acting is pretty good. This isn't an anime that's being translated from Japanese, as far as I can tell. I think it's being simulcast in France, Japan, and here in the States. I think. I dunno. I haven't managed to find a good source of up-to-date info about the specifics.
Anyhoo, grab the torrent and watch Toon Disney. I think it may also come on the Jetix cartoon block, which is sometimes shown on other networks like Fox or WB. I'll let ya'll know if I can find actual days and times.
