I CAME BACK I'M STILL HERE

Yo. I have News.

Okay, I'm not really sure why I felt the need to put this under a cut (feels like clickbait XD), but:

I am applying for a Master's degree in Vocal Literature and Performance at the University of Western Ontario. The initial application is sent, and now I have to prepare for my audition. Unfortunately, I'm flat broke, so I can't make it out to audition live, but I shall be sending a DVD.

Now, the thing is: live auditions are being scheduled for the 13th and 14th of February. That doesn't leave me much time to prepare and record a DVD and get it mailed out there in time for them to view it around the same time (which I am told they prefer).

And I'm learning six new things.

Yeah.

Requirements are three opera arias (one of which has to be in Italian), one oratorio aria, three art songs, and one additional art song that was composed post-1960. And since I've been doing mezzo rep all my life and only very recently started branching out into proper soprano rep that suits my actual fach (I think I'm a spinto), there's not much I already know that I can use.

So I am learning six new things. I'll give you a list of my rep in case you're interested; I made a YouTube playlist here of all of them except one I already know inside out.

Arias:
01) Va! laisse couler mes larmes - Werther (Massenet) [this is the one not on the list]
02) Vissi d'arte - Tosca (Puccini)
03) Měsíčku na nebi hlubokém - Rusalka (Dvořák) [this is the Song to the Moon]

Oratorio:
01) Höre, Israel - Elias [Elijah] (Mendelssohn)

Art Songs:
01) Im Waldeseinsamkeit - Brahms
02) The Heavenly Banquet - Barber
03) Mandoline - Debussy

Contemporary Art Song:
01) Piccola Serenata - Bernstein

And of those eight, the two I know are Va and The Heavenly Banquet. I get to learn how to pronounce Czech for the Rusalka aria. There are five languages represented here, not including the nonsense-syllable "text" of the Bernstein.

GOOD TIMES. I'm giving myself until Monday to get everything memorised. Wish me luck. *_*

zwischenfach, apparently i'm not actually a soprano, singing, grad school, apparently i'm actually a soprano
