The Killers

So, The Killers came out with a new CD today. Being the major dork that I am, I preordered it on iTunes and it downloaded this morning. It's quite good. I'm especially in love with their new single, "When You Were Young". I dunno...it's just one of those songs. The new Evanescence CD came out today as well, which I also preordered. I'm also enjoying it. Yay!

Lots of stuff happened last week. I should have posted, but whatever. I was so busy. I ran filing for SG Fall Elections on Monday-Wednesday. I had one test Wednesday, two on Thursday, and one on Friday. I'm not sure that I did particularly well on any of them. I also was awesome enough to sleep through one test. I mean...damn. I woke up at the exact time the second test of the day was starting, so I made it to that one luckily. I'm also incredibly lucky that I can make up the test I slept through with a comprehensive, all-essay makeup at the end of the semester. But hey, at least it's not a zero. I thought I rocked my physics test, but the grade doesn't line up. Apparently I'm not the only person this happened to, so we'll see.

Someone today commented on how I'm always late to class. It's true, and I hate that. I don't want to be seen as that kid. I almost think I need to get it checked out; my subconscious is the devil.

My parents came in this weekend for the game; it was cool. Friday wasn't great, though; they left a couple hours late and Dad was pissed that they couldn't eat dinner with me cause I was going to the Better Than Ezra concert that night. Whatever. It got better after the initial argument, but it was still frustrating on top of my pretty sucky week. The concert, however, was good. I did feel somewhat left out during most of it, even though there were concerted efforts to not make me feel that way (for which I was thankful). Ah well. That's what you get for going with two people you actually know who know other people that are going to be there. Again, I did enjoy the concert though. And they played a couple of my favorites. Yay BTE!

Christy came and stayed with me while the fam was here. That was pretty cool, although Friday night (as I said before) was rough. I think she had a decent time, though I'm not sure that she told the truth about her feelings the whole time. Ah well. I don't know that I could have done anything to change things. The game Saturday sucked. We won, yes, but it was wayyy too early for a game, which meant no tailgating, it was miserably hot, it rained, and then we played pretty crappily at the end - allowing more points than we've done this whole season. Bah. Saturday turned out to be a good day, though, with dinner at Tsunami with the fam (yay!), visiting with them, and then a party with Shelby. Amusing to say the least.

Sunday I got up early to eat with my family before they left, then went to clean up a cemetary with the Honors College. The place is called Sweet Olive, and it's one of the oldest African American cemeteries in either Louisiana or the whole country. The sad thing, though, was how overgrown and crappy it looked; I don't think anyone had been out there to clean it up (except in a few areas) in many years. The project itself was really cool, though, and we did a lot to help. There's soo much more to do, but you could visibly see the dent we made in it. I plan to go back when we take a trip. Plus, it was amusing watching Antoine hit on the bus driver. Can't say I blame him, though. After the trip, I showered, and slept. I made a trip to Wal Mart with John and then did absolutely nothing. I felt like a bum, but hey, after such a hellish week, I think I deserved a couple days off.

Anyways, that's enough rambling to catch up. I leave you with song lyrics (as usual). Although I'd intended to post a Wreckers song with my update, I can't get the Killers song out of my head. The lyrics are incredible (like they seem to be in so many of their songs), and the melody is great. Plus, I love how the lead singer's voice is so much deeper now! So here it is:

"When You Were Young"
The Killers

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch him now, here he come

He doesn’t look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young

Can we climb this mountain I don’t know
Higher now than ever before I
Know we can make it if we take it slow
Let’s take it easy, easy now, watch it go

We’re burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young

And sometimes you close your eyes
and see the place where you used to live
When you were young

They say the devils water it ain’t so sweet
You don’t have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch him now, here he come

He doesn’t look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young

(Talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when) when you were young

I said he doesn’t look a thing like Jesus
He doesn’t look a thing like Jesus

But more than you’ll ever know

Now I'm off on a "date" with Danelle (lol), which thankfully includes dinner. YAY!
