Tuan Guru Haji Nik Abdul Aziz bin Nik Mat is the Chief Minister of the Kelantan state and the spiritual leader of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Malaysia.
Below is the translation of the main text of his Maulidur Rasul speech, prepared by me.
(i)
In the Name of Allah the Most Benevolent the Most Merciful
Allah Glorified and Exalted is He (SWT) says:
(ii)
Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad ) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in
(the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much - Al-Quran, chapter al-Ahzab,
verse 21.
Praise to Allah, we convey the highest gratitude to Allah SWT as we are able to meet the month of Rabiul Awwal in this year of 1434 Hijrah. Once again, we are together in the celebration of the Birth of the Messenger (Maulidur-Rasul) which is a yearly routine for all Muslims not only in Malaysia but throughout the world.
Indeed the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon Him, (Rasulullah SAW) is the best role model for each and every human in facing the daily life. Allah SWT purposely appointed His Messenger among the humankind in which he could set examples and lessons to all. He did not choose the Messenger among the angels, the creation that possess no desire, because they could not possibly give lessons to humans whose nature is the opposite.
Truly, when Rasulullah SAW became the role model, he did not only cover the ibadah (worship acts) but all the aspects of life. For example in the marriage aspect, Rasulullah SAW was known as a husband who liked to joke with his wife. His humor had never degraded his essence of nubuwwah (prophethood), in fact it gave a spark to the marriage life which is desired by everyone. Sometimes, many of us neglect this point that our life becomes numb and rigid without the presence of humor.
Not to mention the aspect of muamalat (interactions/transactions) among the people. Rasulullah SAW was remembered as a person who uttered sweet things that brought sooth to the listeners. He used to mention a joke by truthful words and yet welcomed more respect and love from the people.
More importantly, Rasullah SAW succeed to change the thinking paradigm of jahiliyyah (ignorant) people which fixed with absurd traditions within the 23 years of his struggle. Even though he was a Prophet and the love of Allah SWT, the length of time he took to accomplish the da’wah (invitation) mission in Makkah and Madinah was nothing like the blink of an eye. This sirah (Prophet’s biography) taught us that every struggle takes its own time. This is the nature of a struggle that must be accepted by everyone who upholds Islam today.
In reality, Maulidur-Rasul is not just about celebrating the birth of Rasulullah, but upholding the syariat (Islamic law) brought by him. This syariat must be placed highest in all aspects of life. And if this spirit is nurtured, insya-Allah (God willing) we will witness the meaningful atmosphere of maulidur-rasul celebration exists in this country, insya-Allah.
