This is fascinating to me, both the article and the response.

I personally found my college essay very interesting... I was asked to pick one of the three prompts, and went with, "What two or three books would you require every student to read before graduating college?" (I picked "the holy book of a religion NOT YOURS, and the Joy of Cooking.") But the essay for the NMS semifinals was dead boring, and I damn near didn't get it done. So I really see it as two examples of exactly what Copperbadge is talking about: How to Do It Right, and how to Do It Wrong.
