So... I'm going to a fail a class.

I have NEVER failed a class (like gotten an F for a final grade) in my entire educational experience and for the first time ever, I will be failing a class this semester. Theoretically I could pull a D in the course if I stopped to give a fuck, but frankly the teacher makes me not want to show up to class.

The course is International Relations of the United State (I thought it would be interesting and challenging!). It is a 3000 level course and I need a C or better for it to apply to my College of Arts and Sciences 48 credits at 3000+ requirement. As of this very moment the HIGHEST grade I can get is a C-. I did somewhat poorly on the first two tests but thought if I could get an A on my paper (and I tend to be a A/B paper student) that I should be able to pull of a B in the class.

The paper for the class is worth 40 points.

4 for the brief, 6 for the outline, 10 for the first draft and 20 for the final paper. Out of those forty the most I can achieve is a 31. I missed 9 points already and I have not turned in the final draft. My luck would be such that I would spend numerous stressful hours for a class I have no desire to even take any more and still not get that C on the paper. Also, I would need a perfect score on the final exam to get that C-. Frankly, if I can't gotten anything resembling a perfect score yet, I'm probably not going to.

I attended class regularly (missed a few classes here and there) and read the text. I type 75 words per minute and I still missed huge chunks of her lecture. Honestly, at the 3000 level I expect more then just lecture. I expect discussion and debating. The fact is, she is so hard pressed to sum up a chapter in 50 minutes that there IS NO TIME for discussion.

The University has a Forgiveness Policy where you can retake a course if you do badly in it. If you do this with proper paperwork, the original grade will not count towards your GPA, but it does show up on your transcripts. Also, you must get a C or better, or both bad grades will apply to your GPA.

Because I know the likelihood of me getting a C- is slim to none and a D will still require to much effort to even be worthwhile, I'm just going to stop going to class and doing assignments. This is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. For the most part I've had exceptional teachers, but I suppose once they have tenure they stay. I still cannot believe I'm failing a class.
