MISFITS room party. Suggestions please!
I'm using this as a forum to have an internal debate. if the topic up on top is not interesting to you, skip this post--it'll probably not be terribly interesting.
so the pookie and i are organizing the MISFITS room party at Anime Detour this year and we've sorta, mostly decided on doing an avatar party--doing the room up like a tea house and making Iroh's dream come true as "The Tea Weevil." which is funny, trust me. we have plans for decorations and food and lots of tea...but i'm having second and third thoughts. y'see, this is a big way to get folks to come to Convergence--but the CONvergence theme is...creature feature. and i'm not sure the Tea Weevil is...i don't know...awesome enough?
I mean...we're the Zombie Dystopia group! with a CONvention that is dedicating itself to the creature feature. i had a thought about having a party similar to nicole's halloween party--with zombie make-up set out and us making Zombies out of the otaku that come into our party. Zombie catgirls and Vashs (Vashes? whats the plural of vash?)! that would be pretty cool. but we can't think of very many zombie themed anime--and there is where the debate takes place. Avatar is more "anime-ish" then creature feature...but i think a creature feature party would be cooler. we could have...uhm....jello brains? radioactive orange pop? pookie just tells me to pick a theme. do i want zombie theme? actual creature feature theme (broader, can have giant radioactive animals and aliens....) or...do we want to go back to the avatar theme?
it would be easier if there were anime that we could use as a basis--berserk would work, but we haven't seen all of it. ninja scroll woul alllllmost work, but i don't really like it all that much. FMA would almost work...but they aren't really zombies. or creatures. or anything that relates to other things really. we just don't watch horror based anime. or read horror manga aside from pet shop. we could do the bathhouse from spirited away...that would work, but i dunno how well it will work, or what we'd actaully do for it.
huh...a miyazaki monster mash might be fun....but how? what would we do for it? how would we get people to come? i mean, with the zombie thing--once we got started with makup we'd have people going around who, when asked "where did you get to be a zombie??" could direct folks to our party--much like the CONvergence Dystopia party gives out the barcode temporary tats.
i like the idea of a miyazaki monster mash. it's themeatic for both cons, and an alliteration to boot. and i loves me my alliterations. but what would we do for food? what would we do to get folks to come to us? we can't play "the monster mash" all night long. and besides--the party should be a lower-key party--since it will be competing with the giant rave-dance. but we want to make the room all decorated. and what kind of decoration would a miyazki monster mash do for decoration? we can't put that much green into a room!
we have a budget. we have a room. now all we need is the planning.
we'd like to have baked goods of some sort.
we'd like to have some sort of drink that isn't carbonated.
we'd like to have costumes of some sort.
we'd like to have a full room decoration--we feel that that sort of thing elevates room parties into more memorable events.
we'd also like to no go broke or insane making this happen. we can do it--but we need to know what we're doing
i dunno. tiernsshaddow? you seemed interested in helping out with party stuff--what do you think?
