I'm starting to read the Joseph Smith papers and the thing that sticks out to me is ... when he prayed, the impression he got (which I bet will be repeated in every account) is that "all the sects are wrong ... they draw near to me with their lips but their hearts are far from me."

My theory is that Joseph came from a Christian tradition, so he did the best he could to organize a new sect from his Christian tradition understanding. But ultimately, for God to fill the whole earth, He needs to take in and accept *every* tradition (given that they're true and not harmful and follow the principles Christ taught, whether or not it's actually in Christ's name.)

God is not a respecter of persons, He looks on people's hearts ... so I can't see why he would care about your particular religious sect as long as you are honestly seeking Him and seeking truth and seeking to make the world a better place and love your neighbor.

A few friends have said I sound like a Unitarian Universalist, so I guess that's what I'll be looking into after this move.

I want to do what feels right.
